Studebaker m5 1947 Description
1947 Studebaker M5 half ton pickup . (113 inch wheelbase)this truck runs and drives great and is a blast to drive around town. If you buy it you could drive it home, though you should keep in mind this is an old farm truck and its top speed is about 55 mph due to the transmission and rear end gearing. I have a clean title in hand ready to hand to the buyer. What’s left of the paint is original, with the exception of the hand lettered door sign. the rest of the truck is about 90% original and still runs a 6 volt electrical system. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this truck anywhere. starts great even when cold. I have owned this truck for 3 years and though my intention was never to entirely restore it, just to fix some issues because it drives great and looks really cool as is. It still maintains its original flat head 6 motor (rated for 80 HP) and T-90 3 speed transmission. The motor was entirely rebuilt by RB automotive machine shop in 2006. it has approximately 8000 miles since the rebuild in 2008.
I am the third owner of this truck. it was originally owned by a local Utah fruit farmer and was parked in the late 60s. it was pulled from a barn in the early 2000's. when it was pulled it was gone through to make it road worthy by the second owner and was ready was road worthy by early 2008. As you can see the body has a fair amount of surface rust with some spots where it has eaten through entirely. I have included pictures of all of the bad rust. the bad rust can be found on all four of the fenders, running boards where they mount to the frame, passenger rear cab corner, a portion of the bed floor, and the driver inner fender.
Here is a list of things that have been changed or modified from its stock condition:
- disc brake conversion on the front axle.
- Chevy drum conversion on the rear axle(stock Studebaker internals and shoes, with Chevy drum)
- late model ford bucket seats added
- Original gas tank has been repaired, interior cleaned and etched, and coated.
- foot starter button moved from original location to easier access on the floor.
- remade the front bed sheet metal.
- patched hole in drivers side floor with reproduction floor panel
- radial tires and Chevy steel wheels.
- replaced left side, left handed wheel studs with right hand thread studs
- replaced old right hand wheel studs with new wheel studs.
- hand lettered door logo
- front leaf springs were replaced with new units made by a local spring shop
- replaced fuel level sender with NOS unit. (reads accurately when empty, but only reads half full when full)
- replaced the 6v sealed beam headlines with 6v halogen bulb headlights and housing
- passenger side rear view mirror added
- lap seat belts and corresponding bracketry
I am including many extras with this sale they will include:
- 1 steel left fender with zero rust currently painted black (front and back fenders are interchangeable and only side specific) these are off of another Studebaker Truck I own which I switched over to fiberglass fenders.
- 1 steel right fender with zero rust (front and back fenders are interchangeable and only side specific)these are off of another Studebaker Truck I own which I switched over to fiberglass fenders.
- original seat springs, uncovered and needing some repair
- spare engine head
- Original Studebaker cab heater/defroster. Needs to be refurbished
- all original brake parts including hubs, drums wheel cylinders and brake pads and brake hardware. one drum has a crack, and one of the wheel cylinders was leaking when pulled.
- rear taper axle hub puller, custom made by me, not perfect but it works well.
- 6 v sealed beam headlights, one is burnt out since hence the switch to the halogen bulbs
- a second 47 Studebaker dashboard. it has been modified, but the glove box and trim pieces are intact. Again this is from my other truck and will not be used.
- Misc Studebaker replacement parts including NOS speedometer cable, water pump, Fuel Pump, Throw-out bearing, interior light, gauges, door/window handle, and misc bolts and nuts.
Again the truck needs nothing to run and drive daily, it would be a great truck to flip, or anawesome start to cool hot rod. If you are local feel free to contact me if you want to come by and see it or take it for a drive.
I am willing to work with a shipper of buyers choosing but all cost associated with shipping the truck are the responsibility of the buyer.
I would be happy to answer any questions you have.
