Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight 1955 Description
Here is a 1955 olds 88 that has spent the majority of its life in arizona, both in northern az and here in the valley. I found this car in mesa, az. The previous owner had bought it as a father/son project that ended when son turned 16 and found other interests. He put the gear driven 455 & Th400 trans in car along with brake booster and master cylinder. 455 has a mild cam, forged pistons and crank, head studs, aluminum intake, holley 750 double pumper, HEI ignition, custom headers, dual flow masters and 2.5" exhaust. It has plenty of power. Still has four wheel drum brakes. Front would be an easy disc conversion. He also put the mustang interior in it. I have the original back seat frame for the car that is included. The car had not run in over a year when i picked it up this past october. I got it running after putting in some gas and getting the electric fuel pump primed. Door windows are lexan, otherwise all other glass appears to be original. You can get in and drive car now that I replaced all four shocks and sway bar bushings. I also did the following list to the car to make it a little more complete. Previous owner told me that when he acquired car that it was in all grey primer and lifted in the front to look like an old gasser. He sanded as much of primer off as possible to give it the patina that it has now.* New rocket racing wheels with new BFG radial TA's, 255/60/15 front, 275/60/15 rear* Found used front "88" fender emblems here on ebay* Found complete set of tail lights at a local swap meet. I am including all parts that i took off car in box in photo of trunk.* New chrome trans pan, gasket, filter. Trans shifts smooth. Old pan was in tough shape.* New dual fuel line with pres gauge. I assume with gear drive there is no fuel pump eccentric and thats why they put an electric pump in. Pump and fans are on same switch under dash.* Found used rocker trim spears here on eBay.* Found a missing reverse light lense and got lights working.* Found a used trunk handle and new lock on eBay. Existing was broken in half and included in box.* New front and rear shocks* New front and rear sway bar end links and bushings.* Cleaned terminals on original fuse block and got all lights except dash lights working. Replaced flasher.
My goal with this car was only to get it running and driving and let someone else do what they want with it. I think its cool the way it is but would be an easy restoration or a cool rat rod. The driver floor has a small patch panel under where your feet rest and the rust you see on the rockers is the only other rust on the car, i am assuming thats from its time in northern az. Car still has a NAU parking sticker on back window from 1967. As i have fixed things everything came apart well and did not break. Very surprising to me as I am originally from Minnesota and used to everything rotting from the elements. If you have any questions about car call or text Matt @ 612-987-7054. I won't give car away but would like to move on to another project. I enjoy the tasks of bringing classic cars back to life, but don't and won't restore them completely. I don't need help selling and if you have zero feedback your bid will be cancelled. If you don't have any money, save both of our time and don't bid.
