Ford Mustang 1965 Description
This 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback is a factory 289 V8-powered example that has been upgraded to HiPo specification and is fitted with a Paxton supercharger. The car was restored by a previous owner to a fairly original configuration apart from the engine modifications, including correct colors and a “standard” interior with no center console. It is sold with substantial records for the mechanical work performed and a clean title.A set of Cragar five spoke wheels replaces the stock items, but the exterior of the car is otherwise largely unmodified. Stock Mustang and 289 badges adorn the front fenders, and the exhaust appears to be stock-sized. Springtime yellow was only offered in 1965 and 1966 and is a fairly rare color for Mustangs. Per the body tag that indicates the original options, Springtime Yellow is the correct original color for this car.
Apart from the wheels, the only exterior cosmetic modification is the Shelby-style hood with hood pins. Panel alignment is generally good, and the stock lighting is still in place.
A pair of aftermarket gauges have been added and include a column-mounted tach. An original-style reproduction radio is fitted, and is augmented by a pair of additional speakers in the kick panels. The dash and associated trim appear to be in good condition while the original steering wheel is still fitted.
Upholstery shows well front and rear, and the rear seat is shown both stowed and flipped up. The sloping roof line afforded the fastback Mustang a substantial cargo area compared to the notchback cars.
The trunk is tidy, with a correct-type plaid trunk liner and steel spare wheel.
The car was originally delivered with a C-Code 289 cubic inch V8 good for 200 horsepower (as indicated by the “C” in the fifth position of the warranty number). During the restoration the car was rebuilt to HiPo specs and fitted with a belt driven Paxton blower. The modifications have a nice period correct look, though all of the hardware is new. The transmission is a C-4 automatic that matches the original specification. The seller estimates that the car makes around 350 horsepower and notes that it is quite fast.
The data plate is attached, and the full chassis sequence appears on VIN Plus, helping to corroborate its originality. The decoded sequence indicates correctly that the car is a fastback (code 63 at top and 09 in the warranty number), with the standard interior (code A), painted Springtime Yellow (code 8), with black vinyl interior upholstery and trim (code 26), made in May of 1965 (code 05R), ordered to the Newark region (code 15), and equipped with a 3.00 rear end and C-4 automatic transmission (code 6 in the rear axle and transmission spots).
The underside it's quite clean with black painted floors and clean suspension components. To help cope with the extra power the front brakes have been converted to discs.
Substantial records totalling over $20k are included for the mechanical work performed in 2005-2006. Included in the records is information on the conversion to HiPo specification and the addition of the supercharger.
