Dodge Other Pickups 1947 Description
I am pretty darn sure there is not another like it. anywhere! You're looking at an absolutely original 1947 Dodge WD20. EVERYTHING on this Dodge is original to the truck. the paint. the interior. the bed wood. the cab plywood floor inserts. even the front tires appear original as the spare matches! The truck was acquired from the Original owners great grand son and had been parked in a barn in Idaho for years. In it were the original Bill of Sale made out to a Mr. Roy Miller From the Wilson Motoring Company of Caldwell. Idaho for the amount of $1. 10. 50. The vin on the bill of sale matches the truck. Also found in the truck were the original owners manual. an original sales brochure. Mr. Millers mileage log. the original jack. tools and original engine hand crank. The truck was not running at the time it was acquired. though the engine did turn by hand. The original spark plugs were removed and saved. Marvel Mystery oil was added to the cylinders and allowed to soak for about three weeks (didn't want to break a piston ring). The paint was then attacked. The truck was power washed and two weeks were spent bringing back as much of the original paint shine as possible. THERE IS NO RUST IN THE TRUCK ANYWHERE!Wheels were removed and the brakes were inspected. As a result. all 4 wheel cylinders were replaced as they showed signs of leakage. again the original parts were saved. The truck will still need a brake master cylinder overhaul or replacement as the pedal is still soft though it does come up after use. The Beast will stop. but. I will most likely rebuild the master cylinder before the truck is sold. the front and rear wheel bearings were repacked after inspection as there was no need to replace them. All systems on the truck were checked. The drivers low beam headlamp was found to be inoperative and replaced. again saving the original lamp that came from the truck. THE START . It was time to start this long dormant time warp. Engine oil and filter were changed. the fuel tank and carburetor drained. fuel filter replaced. coolant replaced. a new set of spark plugs installed as well as a new distributor rotor and cap. The ignition points and condenser showed proper voltage so they were left alone. A brand new 6 volt battery was installed. The engine was cranked over with the coil lead removed to attain oil pressure. Once oil pressure was brought up (the oil pressure gauge in the dash works) the coil lead was attached. a few pumps on the accelerator pedal applied. ignition turned on and the starter motor cranked. Within 4 cranks the engine sprang to life. filling the shop with smoke (from the Marvel Mystery oil. hell. you couldn't see the truck) and she idled perfectly. No carburetor or ignition timing adjustments were needed. she idled perfectly. with a slight pop-pop noise coming from a very small hole in the muffler. That was it. no drama. The Truck starts instantly cold or warm. We still have cooler mornings here. even in April (30 degrees). With a slight pull on the choke cable. that works. a quick mash on the throttle and she starts instantly! No smoke! She does drip a very small amount of oil and has most likely done so since new :) As previously stated this truck is in absolutely original condition. The only other complete 1947 Dodge WD20 that I have been able to find has been completely restored and located somewhere in the mid-west. I would venture to say and almost wager a large sum. that this very truck is the ONLY completely original example of a 1947 Dodge 1 ton WD20 available; period. Everything on the truck works. inclusive of its fuel gauge. temp gauge. oil pressure gauge. interior dome lamp with its original glass lens. tail light (there is only one) headlamps and ultra rare parking lamps. choke. manual throttle cable. dash light. and heater fan. IT ALL WORKS ! It even has the original highway flares that are stacked neatly on the fire wall. Believed to be a dealer installed option. they are rather like smoke pots that are lit. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A COMPLETE SET ANYWHERE ! Pricing. Just not sure as there really is no comparable 1947 Dodge 1 ton WD20out there. Originality is exactly what collectors are willing to pay for now a days as cars and trucks are only original one time. This one . one simply cannot find a more original example. I have found parts for sale. a front grill emblem for a whopping $1. 00 ! A set of "DODGE" hood badges for $495. but not another complete truck. It may indeed be the ONLY running. driving. completely original 1947 Dodge WD20 ON THE PLANET !!! The truck will be posted on Ebay with what I feel is a realistic reserve. I would prefer that "THE BEAST" stay local and go to a apple orchard or local winery as perhaps a display novelty that can be lightly used on the property. It is a very. very cool and extraordinarily rare truck. where would one find another??? additional photos are available. feel free emailing me with a request. I have over 80 detailed photographs. Thanks for playing.
