The number's 4-2-7 has always been magic to muscle car enthusiasts all over the world! To those in the know it means bruit horsepower and the first year it was offered in a Corvette was 1966. When the Mark IV big block was introduced to the buying public in '65 it displaced 396ci and was putting out 425 solid lifter hp. But when Chevrolet upped the ante a bit the next year with the 427 all bets were off! That year two versions of the big block were offered (semi) mild and completely wild! The wild version put out the same 425hp as the 396 did the previous year but the torque was increased from 415 to a stump pulling 460 lbs./ft.! Thus a legend was born . . .
