Willys CJ 1956 Description
Offering for sale a 1956 Willys Jeep CJ5.This is everything a classic 60 year old Jeep is and should be. It has a 260 Ford V8 and the rest of the drive train is the stock T-90 transmission, Dana 18 transfer case, and Dana 25 and 44 axles.
Sometime in the Jeeps past it received a 260 Ford V8. for those not familiar, it is just a slightly smaller version of the 289 and 302 small block Fords. It was produced for a few years n the 60's.
The good:
Very dependable, has been my daily driver for a year.
Engine runs like a sewing machine, has good oil pressure and runs cool
Sweet fender well exhaust headers
Pertronix ignition
Saturn or Warn PTO overdrive unit (tag is worn)
4 wheel drive works as it should
Winch works, but has not been needed or tested under heavy load
Seats 4 with seat belts
Metal hard top
Top and doors are easy to remove
Brakes have been upgraded to bigger, later model Jeep drums
Good tires, lots of tread
Tow bar included
Clear title, current registration until May of 2017
The bad:
Some rust is starting on the rocker panels
Some rust has taken hold in the windshield frame
The gas gauge doesn't work, I watch the odometer
Rattles and clunks like any old Jeep will do
Weatherstripping on top and doors is shot so there is wind and rain leaks
Some oil leaks from everything that holds oil, but nothing major
Both front seats have minor tears
Front fenders are fiberglass
If you are in the market for an early CJ, this will not disappoint. The V8 has an ideal low power band for the stock running gear. It's old, it's a well used Jeep. It rattles, it goes slow (top speed on the highway of about 62 mph) but it drives nice for what it is with such a short wheel base.
I am keeping the gas can on the rear rack. I'm sure I've forgotten to mention something, so please ask questions and come take it for a test drive.
