Willys Station Wagon 1949 Description

1949 Willys Overland Station Wagon
America's First SUV-NO RESERVE!!!

Correctly described as "One of the most influential automobiles ever built," the Jeep Station Wagon was produced through the early 1960s, then succeeded by the Jeep Wagoneer and subsequent Jeep sport-utility vehicles, this was the first all-steel wagon to be manufactured and sold in America. Here for auction at NO RESERVE is this nice Willys. Brought to us by a client that has no more room. I am going to let the market tell us what its worth so let her begin, bid your best! Last auction ended a minute early I don't know why. I am sure if this Willys could talk we would hear some interesting stories. Owned by the same person for may years its traveled around. Up in the corner of the headliner
"Maggie Valley N.C Antique Show July 1,2 & 3 - 1983"
How it got from there to here we have no idea.
It has an aftermarket radio with removable face plate
original antenna and mounting.
This Willys Overland has been repainted the original color of pine green. There is no rust and it appears never has been. The paint is nice and looks good - could use a wet sand and buff detail. The paint is an 8 out of 10 and has nice attention to detail. The tape cut lines on the individual panels was done right, edges are nice. The interior has been restored at some point and is very clean. There are some dents on the inside of the lower tailgate. The seats are black and there is a 1/8 " tear in the back left one that should be an easy repair. I don't know if the door panels are original style or not, but they are about the only items in the interior that need attention, they may be original, I don't know. The headliner is mohair and perfect. Might be original. There is a cracked panel of windshield right side. An extra dash panel has been added, the original is there needs restored. Bright work is either original or older redo. Some of the window seals need to be replaced. Engine fires right up and runs, probably just needs a tune up & carburetor work, running rough. He has misplaced the air cleaner in a move. Leaks a little when left for a while, not too bad though. The knob on the choke cable is gone, choke works fine. I have not taken this one over 20 mph, have not tried the overdrive. Brakes seem ok. Clutch is working, has some chatter. Selling mileage exempt. This is one that you can buy and clean it up to increase the value! That's not going to be the owner or us, we are too busy in the Auction Business

NO RESERVE AUCTION GOES TO HIGH BID!

I would say that this collector station wagon is quickly increasing with value momentum in the market. Here is what I would do if I were going to keep it. Inspect electrical components, repair as needed, take extra instrument panel out, fill area & repair original gauges. Get the engine running well, inspect the clutch and throw out bearings, don't think its original to the car. Detail engine compartment. Take the interior out and re-varnish the wood slats (complete with hardware) then replace some of the rubber around the windows. Tires look good with some weathering, if you were going to drive long distance might replace. Hubcaps look nice, right rear cap has a dent. I would re-chrome the rest of the bright work. Wet sand and buff the paint lightly. I would powder coat the wheels in a contrasting color, maybe apple green. That's just what I would do, you might want to do it different. You might just want to tune her up and go to the shows. This is a good one. If your are looking for one that is a light project that you can tinker with, here it is. Bid your best because its going to sell. We are shipping brokers for our clients only right to your front door at a wholesale price.
