Studebaker M16-52 1948 Description
For sale is a 1.5-ton, 1948 Studebaker truck. Mechanically it's a beauty -- everything works, including the dump, and the engine is so smooth and quiet that it is difficult to know if it is on. It has some farmyard bangs and dents, but no rust at all! With a little body work and a good paint job, this could be special.I came across this truck 10 years ago. Prior to that it had been stored in a southern Colorado shed for 35 years. Decided that after 35 years of sitting, there was no reason to think that any mechanical component could survive, so I had virtually all the mechanics completely rebuilt.
Quick summary:--Deluxe 246 engine rebuild kit from Kantor ($2,000)--Engine rebuilt by Car Quest of Omaha, Nebraska ($1010)--Repaired and newly upholstered seats ($500)--Other rebuilt parts: starter, generator, electronics, brakes, hydraulic lift, distributor, carb., clutch, emergency brake, exhaust, oil seals, crankshaft bearings, battery, cables, to name but just a portion ($1,280)
After all of that, I had the truck shipped to my lake place in northern Minnesota.I intended to use it as-is in local parades and car shows. Then I came upon a body shop in Bemidji, MN. I met with and liked the owner. We decided upon a two-year body restoration project that would leave it like an award-winning truck. (The truck is in Bemidji.)
And then fate struck! We were hit by a series of wind storms that damaged hundreds of vehicles. My beloved Stude went on the backburner. I've since refocused on other car restoration efforts, and I'm ready to move on.
