Pontiac Chieftain 1956 Description
First, for more pictures of the 1956 4X4 and the1955 rolling parts car, go to prezzzz.use.comAfter 14 years of fun I have decided to sell my 1956 Pontiac 4 door 4x4. I have too many other cars and projects. This is a 1956 Pontiac 4 door sitting on top of a 1986 Chevy K10 frame. Just installed new brakes. Any car in North Carolina that is 35 years or older no longer needs a NC state inspection. We have been driving it like this for 10 years.
The entire frame and suspension were painted in a glossy black chassis paint before the body was installed.
The 1956 Pontiac still wears most of its original paint, and the patina is real.
There are some bubbles in the rockers, repairable, but I have a mostly complete 1955 Pontiac of the exact same body. It has no rust holes, an amazing example of a southern solid barn find.
All lights work except for the brake lights. It needs a new brake light switch above the brake pedal. The front Dagmars or bumper bullets have custom made amber parking lights installed for extra attention at night.
All the gauges work except for the speedometer. Never looked into getting it working, might be possible but with GPS there was never a need. The interior is almost all original too with the exception of the 2 bench seats being recovered at some point about 30 years ago. Trunk pan is in great shape, and that's where the fuel cell is mounted.
The frame it sits on started out life as a 1986 Chevy with a 2" lift and 33s. While we were doing the swap we decided to remove the original small block that came with the truck and replaced it with a mid 1970's 454 hooked up to the stock 700r4 and the stock transfer case from the 86 k10. This combo works great and having overdrive is nice for the highway speeds. Locker in the rear with 3.42 gears. This has no problem smoking the rear tires. Speaking of tires, they're 33x12.5x15 BFG mud terrains with 80%tread. The chevy truck had around 130k miles on it when taken apart for this build, and the trans had recently been rebuilt. Can't be much more than 10k on the trans. Miles unknown on the motor.
The parts car is a 1955 Pontiac Chieftain. No motor or trans or bumpers. But exceptionally solid barn find. Solid rocker panels, solid trunk floor, solid pans. Contact me for more details.
The last picture in this listing is what the car will look like after you finish the restoration. This picture was my goal, but alas, no time to complete.
