Pontiac Trans Am 1979 Description
I'm selling my 1979 Trans Am that I bought from a mechanic that acquired the car from a mechanical lien. My intent was to fix the minor issues and keep the car for a while and have some fun. My wife has decided to quit her job and pursue an unforeseen entrepreneurial business in the midst of the purchase of my beautiful TA project. We have a baby and a house to restore. I can not fund everything so the TA has to go. On top of that, I have been keeping the cat at a friends home garage. Her son needs the space. I no longer have a convient place to keep the car and has to be our of there by the end of the month. So if you want one of these cars at a great price??? Make me an offer I can't refuse. This was a mid west car and is now located in New Orleans. It is a real SE Special Edition 4 speed car. 1 of 1107 made that year. This car has its original "Z" coded engine and heads with a 1st and fresh rebuild. It was bored 30 over with flat top pistons and a Thumper Comp cam. The transmission is not original and came out of a 1977 Trans Am. The date code from late 1977. The transmission is a Super T 10 Bourg Warner with a fresh rebuild as well. The Carb is a 800cfm Rochester that has been rebuilt/refinished and the OEM factory carb for this engine set up. These carbs are very rare and expensive. WS6 package with factory 8" wheels. The T tops on the car are off a 1978 Gold edition. They have a mirror gold tint and spectacular to look at. I have the original build sheet and PHS documentation.
The good... The car runs and drives great. It sounds amazing, Just had an alignment done. It looks fantastic and turns heads everywhere you go. A/C works, windows work but a little slow despite new rollers and motor and all other essentials work as well. Has the original 4 flue radiator. OEM T-top covers, Jack and attachments, Space saver spare tire, and inflator bottle The car has been freshly polished and detailed. The car had no rust on it. It has a mirror finish.
The bad.... Despite new rubber seals on windows the t-tops leak at the door glass, despite new latch assemblies and actuators the door locks don't work all the time. There are some minor flaws in the paint but you really have to look for them. The speedometer does not work. It has a new cable and cable gear but I think the tail shaft has to come off and replace the shaft drive to make the speedometer work. It's showing 65k miles and is obviously not the right miles, but judging from the foot peddles and it being the first bore on the engine it's probably not that far off. The car came factory with the chrome door molding and has three or for holes down the side for the molding. I have the molding but think the car looks much better without. The A/C compressor needs a rear mounting bracket.
The car has been restored and from a 1-10 and being a particular car guy.. I'd give it a 8.5. It is a show car that you can have fun with!! You may not ever have another chance to buy one at this price!!!
I have some pictures of the restoration upon request and I'll put up some undercarriage pictures this weekend.
