Pontiac GTO 1965 Description
Offering my dream '65 GTO. I am not a professional mechanic or body man but I restored this car myself for my own pleasure over 2 years. It is a hoot to drive. It runs awesome, stops quick, has power to burn and is not civilized. I wanted a car to drive, not a trailer queen or show car. It is not all original but has a ton of new parts, It is safe, strong, sounds better than factory, reliable and reminds me that speed still exists. It is currently insured by the National Corvette Museum for agreed value of $35,000. Roll down the front and rear windows and have nothing except your hair flying in the wind (no post). It has a 1969 or '70 GTO Pontiac 455 cubic inch motor (which was in there when I found the car) with a 4 barrel Holley carburetor, mated to a Turbo 400 automatic tranny. The frame and all floors are solid with minimal surface rust if any. The vehicle has original sheet metal, owners manual, power steering, drum brakes all around and original seats. I have all PHS documents. From there on, we're talking new parts. Cannot say whether the mileage as shown here and in the car are actual miles since engine is not factory. I believe the 80 thousand believable for the body. There is an original year radio installed but not working. I hid a new AM/FM CD player in the glove box. Plays Beach Boys CDs beautifully. Hobie surfboards decal in rear window for credibility. Let's start at the front and work back with BRAND NEW aftermarket or NOS parts. Everything in this list is NEW. New battery, bumpers front and rear (OPGI), all body mounts, 4 headlights, under hood insulation, radiator with transmission cooler built in, electronic ignition, plugs, wires, master cylinder, chrome valve covers, stainless shielded transmission cooler lines, windshield (glass), cowl/hood weather strip, starter and cables, wipers, outside mirrors, wooden steering wheel, emergency brake cables, AM/FM CD player hidden in glove box, carpet, tachometer to replace empty spot in dash, aux. panel with oil, volt and water temp, battery cut off switch, ignition switch (matches new door locks and trunk lock), shifter indicator plate, door panels, seat (lap) belts, Body By Fisher GM sill plates, window rubber and felt all around, weatherstripping all around (doors and trunk lid), arm rests, rear speaker, rear package tray, headliner (5 hours to install by a professional and his helper), trunk mat, entire gas tank and straps, fuel lines complete, fuel sender unit, brake lines complete, exhaust system complete (Flowmasters) with original year correct exhaust tips/splitters, brake pads and turn drums, shocks all around (adjustable air shocks in rear), flip down rear license plate holder which is also the fuel filler door, and finally a nice metallic blue teal paint job that seems to change color in the sun. One of my best decisions, I found 17 inch awesome wheels and tires and made them fit. I love the way they fill up the wheel wells. Like I said, my personal choice. Gets a lot more rubber on the ground. I am certain I am forgetting some new items but those are the majority. I wanted a cruiser for rides with grandkids and wife. Snaps your head back like the old days, gorgeous to see, and vent windows to boot. I love this car. Unbelievably, this old goat has original floor pans and trunk floor. They were stripped to bare metal, primed, painted and I added sound deadener adhesive sheets throughout, even in the trunk. The body has repairs in various places where i welded in new steel so there is bondo in small spots. I fabricated the repair panels so they aren't perfect but they aren't obvious either. Underside is clean and pretty. This is an old muscle car you will be very proud of. It is NOT perfect, and anybody can pick it apart for choices I made. I wasn't after total originality. This is not a 'sleeper'. It looks badass and runs the same. Scary, freaky fast. If you want a classic at a decent price, look no more. Make it anything you need. Solid foundation waiting for your touches. Comes with a brand new 7 layer car cover too. Wait for it . . . here are the few things on the down side. Honesty is critical. *This car needs total rewiring, someday, although pretty much everything works right now (lights, gauges, etc). Between me and the previous owners, the wiring is a bundle of repairs, splices, loose wires, electrical tape and wires to nowhere. BUT, I am giving the buyer a brand new aftermarket wiring harness with new fuse panel and everything it needs front to back, bumper to bumper. About $500 value. *The electric antenna doesn't work, don't know why but it is the original one. *The car clunks/lurches when i shift the transmission into gear. Don't think that is right but it doesn't bother me or affect the car performance in any way. *Wipers work, washer does not. Has replacement bottle and bracket installed. PayPal deposit required. Balance cash or certified cashiers check that must clear before vehicle leaves the garage. If it helps the potential buyer, I am willing to deliver the car anywhere in the continental US for $1.00 per round trip mile as estimated by Mapquest and paid in advance. Or you can buy my car hauler for $1,850 and just tow it home. 6x16 with tandem axles, brakes and a giant Rugged Ridge winch (believe it to be 10,000 or 15,000 lb.). Winch mounted on portable hitch receiver so it can be moved to your truck or used with any receiver trailer hitch. If this GTO does not sell this week, it is going to spring Rod Run in Gatlinburg / Pigeon Forge first of April. Car is for sale locally and I can end this auction if it sells. FYI, I am asking well over auction start price locally. Will be out of town Thursday, Friday and Saturday but email me with questions. Neither I nor this car have anything to hide. Good luck. Don't lose out. This is a NO RESERVE auction. Highest bidder wins. I can store this car in a locked garage for up to a month if that helps buyer after payment. Car is located in east Tennessee near Cumberland Gap. An hour from 3 different interstate highways.
