Pontiac Trans Am 1988 Description
This is a 1988 Trans-Am GTA. It is indeed a real GTA, as documented by the Y84 code on the Service Parts Identification label. But this car's performance exceeds what left the factory. The GTA option was introduced on the 1987 Trans-Am and is now one of the most desirable third generation F-bodies. The GTA package included the L98 5.7L engine wearing GM's Tuned Port Injection setup, as was used on the Corvette. Beyond the powertrain, the GTA also meant Pontiac's WS6 Performance Suspension ; these cars can really corner! Features include special front and rear stabilizer bars, special shock absorbers and coil springs, four-wheel disc brakes, limited-slip rear axle, and a special steering box. Appearance was also a big part of the GTA package. The 16"x 8" gold, diamond-spoke aluminum wheels were unique to the GTA, along with exterior "GTA" badging.
Note: T-Tops were not a factory option for this year and several aftermarkets installs were prone to leak and rust out the floor boards, Not this one - body is as original.
This car has a rebuilt engine and transmission with approximately 11,000 miles on them. The motor was stroked to 383 cubic inches and includes a large competition camshaft, headers with Morose cat bac, custom hi-temp epoxy coatedintake system-plenumboredwith oversized runners to match to gain torque the L98 lacked at higher rpms. Chromevalve covers, custom red 8mm spark-plug wires, MSD hi-output coil/distributor and accel short plugs for headers, Theemissions equipment is removed or disconnected. Transmission is the durable 700-R4 automatic 4-speed with overdrive. Total mileage on the car is about 150k. This is a rust-free car that spent its early years in California and Texas and since in my garage under a cover. This car was originally a red car (as you can see on the firewall), but it was repainted black 2.5 years ago since I thought GTA's look best in black with gold accents . It received all new GTA badges as well. The P245-50R16 nitrogen filled tires are nearly new all around. The interior is a combination of tan and black. The dashboard is digital from the factory. All gauges and indicators work properly, and the "SYSTEM OK" message is present after the system check is complete. The stereo is a Kenwood CD unit with power antenna. The car has cruise control, power windows, and power locks as well. GTAs are like SS Chevelles; there are far more fakes and clones than genuine articles. People will just slap a couple badges on and call it something it's not. Not here. This car is the real deal, with great performance along with the looks and sound to match.
