Pontiac Catalina 1964 Description
Reduced price and reserve! A beautiful 1964 Pontiac Catalina with ultra low miles: 41,534. This is shown by the seats, which are original: the fabric has no tears even at the driver's position. The carpet also shows no wear. The steering wheel has no cracks or gaps. The dash has a hairline crack and small piece has come out, as shown. The vinyl below the fabric seat cushion at the corner on the left side (driver's side) has a tear, as shown at the bottom of the 16th photo. The provenance for this car is incredible. It comes with the original window sticker, build sheet, owner's manual and owner protection plan booklet. I purchased the car in October 2013 from a dealer in Bowling Green, KY who had bought it from an old man from Georgia. When I bought it it had 41,066 miles. In other words, I have driven it 468 miles in 2 1/2 years. It has never been driven in snow. Since I've had it, it has been garaged or covered most of the time. The story of it being a Georgia car until 2013 checks out in that it has no rust through. There are a couple spots of superficial rust on the back rear of the passenger side doors, as shown. There is also surface rust behind some trim, as shown. However, there is no rust through anywhere on the vehicle, including the usual places such as behind the front and back wheels and trunk. It was built at GM's Atlanta plant for Connally Pontiac of Douglasville, GA on July 1, 1964. Options included tinted glass all around, front seat belts, cushion foam seats in front, windshield washer, dual speed wiper, power brakes, heavy duty air cleaner, roto hydramatic transmission, deluxe steering wheel, power steering, deluxe wheel discs, back up lamps, parking brake signal lamp and radio, decor moldings, instrument panel insulation pad, insulation for shelf, "s/wdw rv mld" and "dead fl pan."The car starts up immediately and runs smooth. The engine has code 11H, meaning it is a V8 389 (6.4L), 267 hp 2 barrel with compression ratio of 10.5:1.2. The specified compression is 155-165 psi. When tested dry, engine cold on November 28, 2015, the readings were: 1:165, 2:171, 3:153, 4:151, 5:162, 6:155, 7:165 and 8:167 confirming the low mileage and lack of engine wear/ usage. The tires show no wear (again confirming the low miles), but due to their age should probably be replaced. I installed a NOS clock which runs great. Quite a few parts, especially those with rubber components, have been replaced including: motor mounts, horn relay, PCV valve, spark plugs and wires, coil, alternator, battery, door and trunk seals, body to frame mounts, core support mounts, radiator and heater hoses, ball joints, shocks, springs, control arm bushings, brake lines (metal and flexible), heater core, change oil, coolant and transmission oil, front and rear transmission seals, transmission pump and bell housing gaskets, transmission case cover to case gasket, transmission pan gasket, transmission cross member to frame mounts, rear motor mount to cross member, replace headlight bezel, remanufactured power steering gear box, power steering coupling, muffler, window glass channels, vent window seals. The exterior paint is a repaint job. It is reasonably decent, however the car would be really amazing with a quality paint job. There are places where overspray is visible, but not many. Most overspray was removed when the door and window seals were replaced. If the car is not repainted there are minor chips in the paint that could just be touched up. This work of installing the parts listed above is believed to have been done correctly, however no warranty or guaranty is made. It may be advisable to have it checked by a mechanic. The parking brake may need to be adjusted. There are places where adhesive used for the door seals got on upper interior painted areas of the rear doors. Adhesive remover took interior paint off the inside top of the passenger side doors in small areas and touch up would take care of it. In addition to the above, in October 2013 a Chevrolet dealer here installed new wheel cylinders and performed an alignment. This is a really great car and a great opportunity for someone who wants a 50 year old car in practically new condition. The power, soft ride, roominess and comfort are so much better than today's vehicles. I am only selling it because I have 2 other 1964 Catalinas and along with my daily driver I just don't have room for all of them. I'm happy to answer any questions. Thanks for looking! NADA average retail is above $16,000 not taking into account low miles. This car is obviously much better than average. The car is also for sale locally. It is in Milford, Ohio, just east of Cincinnati and is available for inspection and test drives.
