Pontiac Trans Am 1980 Description
I am selling my 1980 Pontiac Trans Am Indy 500 Pace Car. It is one of 5700 made. It has the Turbocharged 4.9 liter Pontiac V8 engine in excellent running condition. It is not the original engine. The block is stamped "SR" for service replacement. I am not sure when it was replaced. I was told by the person I purchased it from that the engine was rebuilt approximately 8 years ago. I do not have any receipts, ut did have the valve covers off and the engine is really clean inside. It runs great with no knocks or ticks. No smoking from the exhaust. Compression testshowed 125psi across all 8 cylinders. It has the original Th350 automatic trans that shifts nice and firm and the disc brake rear axle with the factory 3.08 gears and posi traction. It is a WS6 car with the quick ratio steering, arge sway bars and frame stiffening brackets on the front.I purchased this car to use for my business. I own TTA Performance here in Kenosha Wisconsin and cater to the Turbocharged 4.9 (301) Pontiac V8. I offer restoration parts and performance parts for these cars. I used this car for research and development of my parts. It is currently running 15 psi of boost (stock is 9 psi) and was on a chassis dyno where it produced 205 hp and 275 ft/lbs of torque to the rear wheels. This was with the water injection and the larger down pipe installed. No other engine modifications. The car is fun to drive and runs great. I call it a "20 footer" as it looks good from 20 feet away. It gets a lot of thumbs up when driving it. This is a great car for someone who wants to get inand drive it and work on it when they have time. No need to completely dismantle it and restore it, nless you want to do that. It goes straight down the road, tops straight and is a nice cruiser. I drove it 150 miles to Illinois and back for a car show with no issues at 70 MPH.The Good...No cracks in the passenger side exhaust manifoldAll 4 disc brakes work good.Nice tires (BFG Radial T/A 225-70-15)Good turbo light panel and switch (the lights are inoperative at this time. The circuit lost it's ground)Newer exhaust with no mufflers. Sounds nice and is not loud.Solid trunk floor, ocker panels, rear 1/4 panelsand frame rails. Bottoms of doors have surface rustand are fixable. Not broken away or holes.Never overheats and has awesome oil pressure. All gauges work.Correct original carburetor.Clear title in hand registered in my name and currently insured. All spoilers and flares present and in good shape.Ignition system works good and the ESC (Electronic Spark Control) is hooked up and working with the knock sensor.Turbocharger was checked when the intake manifold was replaced and is in good shape.Door arm rest pull handles are not broken.New parts and modifications.....Rebuilt PEVR (Power Enrichment Vacuum Regulator). This is a service I offer through TTA PerformanceTTA Performance 2.5" mandrel bent turbodown pipe.TTA Performancewater/alcohol injection.TTA Performance manual boost controller.New rear u-jointNew spark plugsNew intake manifold gasket and valve cover gasketsNew driver's seat springsReplaced driver's door hinge pins and bushingsTrans fluid and filter replaced. The Bad....Needs cosmetic work. Some rust spots in the floors (original floors, ever patched)Some rust in the lower tail light panel (original)Rust under thetrunk lid (comes with a rust free trunk lid)Rust driver's side front fender.Trunk torsion spring is broken (trunk lid won't stay up).Missing A/C components (I have a compressor and brackets but needs condenser and hoses)Interior has some rips in the seams of the seats and the plastic needs repainting. I have nice original side plastic panels for the interior that go with the car.Dashboard has cracks on the edges.Gray paint on thebodyis dull and there is cracking of the painton the roof. The carwasrepainted a while back but the hood bird was masked and only the gray on the hoodrepainted. The hood bird and the white paint on the hood is original.Suspension is going to need new bushings etc. It is old original stuff. I think the right rear leaf spring is sagging. Steering and ball joints are still tight.Driver's side front grille is broke.Power door locks do not work.Driver's side T-top leaks in the front corner near the door glass.Passenger front seat belt does not retract.Consolemap pocketplateis missing. The boost light switch has been relocated to the knee panel under the steering column.Door panels have some warpage. The vehicle has been garage kept since I have owned it and (May of 2015) and has not been out in the rain since.Price includes the rust free trunk lid,A/C compressor and bracketsand replacement interior plastic panels.More pictures available upon request. The car is for sale locally and I will end this listing if it is sold. I would suggest you come out and view the vehicle in person.Shipping: Local pick up only. If you arrange to have the vehicle shipped, can accommodate bydelivering the car to a location close to Interstate 94.
