Plymouth Suburban 1956 Description
I have listed this car on Craigslist too. Have to thin the herd since I purchased a 56 New Yorker. This is a 1956 Plymouth Suburban station wagon with a 276 Poly V8 and a 2 speed PowerFlite auto trans. 8.0 to 1 compression ratio,187 bhp @ 4400 rpm, 3.73 rear ratio. It runs good and doesn't smoke but is in dire need of exhaust work. The gasket on the drivers side where the head pipe attaches to the manifold is leaking and some of the exhaust pipes are rusted through. It does have dual exhaust. The shocks need replacing and look like they could be original equipment. The transmission does not want to shift into second gear when I take it out for short 3 mile trips. I did take it for a 10 mile trip and it finally shifted into second gear and stayed there (no slippage) until I down shifted so something is out of whack. I just don't have the time or $ to investigate. Some other things that don't work are the speedometer, E. brake, and radio and probably a few more things. Someone has installed some under dash gauges. When I got the car two side windows were cracked so I had them replaced and had new window channel installed all the way around. While I had the door panels off I discovered years of sediment in the bottom of the doors blocking the drain holes resulting in rust bubbles at the bottom of the doors. I blasted all of that crap out and sprayed rust inhibitor and sound proofing to halt the development of any more rust.
The car was repainted once and they changed the color scheme. In some of the photos you will see the dusty rose color. The seats need to be re-upholstered but the 1 piece headliner is in nice shape except for a slit just above the rear view mirror. Original door panels are good too.
The car stops and goes and does not wander around on the road. Headlights and tail lights work.
Please don't hesitate to ask questions. I have over$7700 in this car but am open to offers. $5950 OBO
I bought the car from someone in NewMexico but noticed by the car club decal in the windshield that the car lived in Chico,CA. for some time.
The car is currently licensed and insured.
