Plymouth Savoy 1954 Description

FullyoptionedPlymouth Savoy from Tennessee and southern Illinois. Runs good,very littlerust, shifts smooth, no gear noise, and doesn't burn oil. That's the short description. If you want the whole story, put your reading glasses on.
I've owned this beautyfor several years, andeven thoughI expect it tobreak down every timeI drive it, it never has. Not even once. Itdoes leak oil,but Ikeep it topped off, and it consistently shows 60-70 pounds of oil pressure, evenon hot days. I do the same with the trans and overdrive. A couple yearsback it developed a leak in the radiator, so I removed it and drove it 100 miles to an old world craftsman whoboiled it outand restored it. While the car was laid up, I replaced all 4 front wheel cylinders, brake hoses and brake lines, usingcorrosion resistant lines.The mastercylinder wasmeticulously cleaned and rebuilt at the same time usingNAPA parts. I did not do the rear brakes because it requires a special hub puller that I don't have. When I bought the car the gas tank was full of crud, so Itook it outand cleaned it, whichrevealed many pin holes in the tank. Unable to find a new one, I converted the car to an 11 gallon plastic boat gas tank and electric fuel pump, both mounted in the trunk. I still have the original tank, if someone wants to try and repair it, as well as the original hubcaps, door lock, and miscellaneous trim pieces. The only otherissue I can think of is the brake lights and turn signals don't work. All other lights operate fine, so I just turn on the parking lights to let people know I'm braking, or use hand signals. This is a rural areawe live in, so I'm never in heavy traffic with the car. The big battery you see in the picture is about 1 year old, and I upgraded to new 1 gaugestranded copper battery cables at the same time. Combined with the electric fuel pump, when you turn the key, it starts.
Occasionally we're forced to part with something we're really attached to. In this case, an out of state move makes keeping my big fat round old carimpossible.I guess most people would call ita handyman special, but when it comes to this car, I'm likea guy witha homelywifewho seesher as Miss America. Instead of worrying about itsdull paint, I've always appreciated its straightsolid body. I don't see its torn upholstery, I seecomfortable old seats that were once removed, thoroughly cleaned, and reinstalled onto scrubbed floorboards. I don't see the crack in the back door window, I see a car with rare factory tinted glass all the way around. I don't care that theoriginal push button radio doesn't work, I'm just gladit has an originalpush buttonradio. It doesn't matter to methat the Overdrive unit leaks and needs rewiring, becauseI just keep it full of oil, and feel lucky thecar is equipped with Overdrive. And I certainly don't care that it's missing a hubcap, because they're Chevy hubcaps! Now you decide whether it's a beauty or a beast. Either way, Icanassure youit'slovable. Clear Michigan title in my name, and I'll gladly store the car in the garageuntil it can be picked up.
