Plymouth Duster 1971 Description
This is my 71 340 Duster. I have owned it for about 3 years and I am making a play to buy another car so here it is up for bid. I bought this car from a friend of mine who had bought it in 1988 or there about. He bought it from a friend of his in Van Nuys California. At that time it had the California blue plates and is believed to be a native to California. The car started out as a street strip car that got progressively faster and raced at Famoso Raceway and LA County Raceway regularly. After LACR closed my friend set out to return it to its stock glory. The paint you see here was done in the early 90's and shows how clean this car really is. It has all its original panels and is as straight as the day is long. The interior was completely redone with the exception being the rear set which is the original fabric. Even the gauge bezel was sent out and rechromed. The engine was rebuilt back to stock and only the best parts used and was blueprinted as well. The block is not the original but is a date correct replacement. Underhood the engine, heads, intake, carb, exhaust manifolds, distributor, and radiator are all the correct part numbers. The exhaust system is a exact replica of the original made by Accurate. The date correct trans was rebuilt by Protrans in Lancaster Ca. The rear is an 8 3/4 with 3.23 gears and a sure grip. The underside is clean with no rust. As you can see this car has a lot of options when it was ordered including A/C. The A/C was rebuilt recently by me and blows very cold air. I replaced the reciever drier and heater core as well as rebuilt the A/C box with new seals. I also replaced all of the O rings and replaced the AC wiring harness (Evans). I charged the AC with R12. The cooling system was flushed and the water pump hoses, and belts are new. There are a few things that I can nit pick about this car and since this is an internet auction I would like to disclose the things I think are worth discussing. The paint is almost 30 years old and it has a few chips in the door edge and the bottoms of the quarters (from rocks being kicked up by hot tires). The interior shows very well but the rear seat has a few rips at the seam (it is original after all). The AC controller in the dash doesn't work and I am actively trying to find a solution. For now I properly wired up the A/C compressor and fan motor to a relay and it runs off a toggle switch. I did not cut any of the brand new harness to do this so it can be put back when I find a replacement controller. I added the V24 hood treatment and the 340 wedge decal. The body shop I use wasn't able to mix up Organisol so they painted it in Hot Rod black. Its supposed to have the V8X side stripe with the 340 call out. So the striping isn't truly correct.
This is THE BEST running driving A body I have ever owned.
