Oldsmobile Cutlass 1971 Description
- This is a very nice car that was professionally restored and upgraded about five years ago. Although it has a mild mannered appearance, it is definitely a Muscle Car. The original 350 has been replaced with an Olds 455 (396021 F Block, G Heads). Whoever built this motor knew how to maximize Olds performance. It has an aluminum Offenhaueser intake manifold, stainless headers, aluminized dual exhaust system, MSD ignition system, and oversize aluminum radiator. It has great throttle response and makes tremendous power on take off, you will have no trouble chirping the tires during acceleration. The car has factory power front disc brakes. The rear end is a positraction with W-27 aluminum cover that appears to be a 3:42 ratio. I sanded most of the passenger side axle tube looking for a factory code. Unfortunately the housing had surface rust and some pitting. There is a (corroded?) T and a clear M stamped in the housing (a W-30 code ratio). It is a factory AC car, but all under-hood components have been removed. It has an aftermarket set of gauges for oil pressure, amperage, and coolant temperature.
- The car has an excellent body and I can find no evidence of rust repair. The trunk lid appears to be a new reproduction (undrilled for letters or numbers). Doors are excellent. The quality of panel fit is excellent. Somebody spent a LOT of time block sanding prior to paint to get everything this straight; clear coat paint is polished to a mirror finish. I would characterize this as show car paint with a VERY few tiny chips from use. The floors and trunk are solid. The underside of the car is a mixture of black paint, dirt, and some surface rust. Bumpers appear recently rechromed. Side chrome is excellent. The top is in very good condition but does have a few scuffs and minor wear from use. Very nice dark blue bench seat and door panels. Carpet looks new. All lights, speedometer, turn signals work. As far as needs horn does not work, there is no top boot or jack, spare tire is an Olds SS2 wheel. AM FM radio is an old Kenwood system with power amp in the trunk that works great. Missing radio knobs .
- Overall this car feels like a well-tuned 455 / 442 car. Very trouble free and draws a crowd everywhere. You can easily convert to an SX or 442 appearance if that is your interest. Actual mileage is unknown and car is sold as is. Car is in Edmond OK about 15 miles north of OKC and can be viewed by appointment evenings and weekends. Starting bid $17K and no reserve. Thanks for your interest.
