Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight 1961 Description
This is a cool car! Rare and desirable 1961 Oldsmobile convertible Dynamic 88 with mild custom touches. I bought this car from the private collection of a Texas Oil Tycoon. Texas car, born and raised. It underwent a frame off restoration in the 1990's and had approximately 6k miles put on since. The undercarriage of the car is completely rust-free, there are not even pits in the frame! Undercarriage is detailed nicely but not over restored where you have to be afraid of driving it. The engine bay was completely dismantled, engine rebuilt and upgraded with a factory 4bbl carburetor. Firewall was dismantled, painted, restored and detailed. Engine bay still shows excellent. The interior was completely dismantled, even the dash. If you look up underneath the dash, its nicer than new! Wiring looms were replaced, heater box and accessories were all restored and detailed. Interior was reupholstered, top replaced, weather stripping replaced. Glass is clear and windows line up nicely. The Texas body was nearly 100% rust free before paint, the only rust, which was minimal, was cut out and replaced with metal. The 20 plus year old paint job shows extremely well with only minor touch-ups. Original chrome sparkles brilliantly. Truck is very clean and complete with spare and jack. It also shows off the detailed, professionally installed air-ride system.Mechanically the car is excellent, I personally put about 500 miles on it. Everything works down to the red warning light on the parking brake. (volt and temp warning lights were reconnected to gauges under the dash). To make the car more reliable in Texas heat an electric fan was added. Other mechanical upgrades include new Radial Wide White Walls, upgrade from generator to alternator and fully adjustable air-ride suspension. Truly a pleasure to drive!
Mild custom touches include custom hubcaps, hand painted pin-stripes and Air Ride. The Air Ride was done by Chassis-Fab of Pearland, TX at a cost of $7k. All the work is top notch with the best components. Do not confuse air-ride with hydraulics, air-ride improves the ride and handling of the car! You can adjust the stance of the car and the desired soft, or stiffness easily with a control switch. The original AM radio is in the dash but a concert quality Bluetooth stereo is concealed in the glove box and can be operated from your phone, no need to reach into the glove box. Speakers grills were painted interior color to blend in and not detract from the cars esthetics.
Included with the sale are the factory hubcaps (poverty and deluxe) and rear fender skirts.
I bought this car for my personal use but I also have a 59 Cadillac and I use that more often. My only wish is that my Cadillac was as nice as this car!
