Oldsmobile Cutlass 1988 Description
What doesn't work: original am/fm cassette player door/side window & trunk seals which need to be replaced. Carpet and upholstery not the cleanest but don't have rips and tears either. Needs a new muffler. This car has never been restored but was re-painted in 2007 which is the year I purchased it. Window electric motors work but move the windows slowly. Cruise control no longer works. The air conditioning system has a re-manufactured compressor but the system has not been charged and working in my years with this car. Check engine light stays on because all the factory egr lines and hoses were disconnected in 2013 and at that time a 1970's rochester 4bbl carburetor and a new HEI solid state distributor were installed. The original wheels should eventually be restored to original beauty or replaced. There are some touch-ups needed on the paint especially the front bumper cover. Good points: It has some rarity as it is number 107 of 280 of these cars produced. There were supposed to be 400 but that production number was apparently never realized. Tops and Trends in Kernersville NC which was in business when this car was new is where the final add-ons were put in place that made these cars the complete Cutlass GT packages which was mainly for the appearance not performance. It has the original 307 V8 and automatic overdrive transmission. In 2012 a new headliner was installed. In 2013 new door pins and hinges were installed which corrected the door closing issues. A new better solid steel timing gear was put in along with a new timing chain and E-3 spark plugs. Also that year a complete rear brake service in which the drums were replaced with factory OEM made in USA parts. We also put in new shoes (obviously) and wheel cylinders. No suspension work has been done and it all seems to be good at this time. In May 2015 I installed a new Interstate battery. Just to clarify any questions about the car's condition if it doesn't sell my plans are: #1: Drive car as is and get the window and trunk seals installed; #2: Drive car as is and charge up the a/c putting the new compressor to good use; #3: Drive car as is and replace the carpet and have upholstery cleaned; #4: Drive car as is and put new gaskets and seals in engine and top off with a performance intake and new carburetor. On and on I could go but the point is to show the potential in the car both now and in the future. It might be time to give it a better chance of being restored all at once and enjoyed to the fullest by the next Oldsmobile enthusiast who will be delighted to take it from here. contact Jonathan at 5bzbees@gmail.com or 864-787-8995.
