Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight 1964 Description
The motor is the original Oldsmobile 394Cubic inch 'Ultra High Compression' V-8 with 2 barrel Rochester Carburetor, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Automatic Transmission, Factory Air Conditioning (not working, see below), original AM Radio (works) and still has a paper sticker on the windshield put on in Des Moines, Iowa in 1966 (ie very little if any sweating over the 53 years since it was put on = car always garage kept). We have found very very Little rust anywhere on this car and almost 0 wear on the chrome and all other surfaces. This car has been taken to a few shows the past few months around South Florida and we have taken home 3 trophies so far (this is the slow season for car shows locally). This is a Very Rare Model Original Car and 0 body or interior modifications from Original and very little mechanical except a few for safety/reliability. This car cruises easily at today'shighway speeds, big trunk, great vacation car. This car was built in the Lansing, Michigan assembly plant and was number 19,754 out of 167,674 Dynamic 88's built in 1964 (best guess it was built in about October 1963). Of this total only 10,042 were convertibles and now 54 years later makes this car very rare today. Originally this car was in Des Moines, Iowa and one family from new thru about 1998-2000+-. The original Protect O Plate is with the car. Car was then stored in Missouri? or Tennessee? until about 2006+- when it was brought to Florida and stored again until 2016. When we purchased this car in 2016 it was not running and the odometer showed only 102,751 miles. Since then mechanically this car has been extensively gone thru as this car was in storage aprox 20+- years. Everything that makes this car go or stop has been replaced or repaired as necessary with some upgrades for safety and or reliability.
This is just a partial list of what has been done: Transmission completely overhauled, top of engine gone thru, bottom of engine found no issues in need of repair, new battery, all new brakes including shoes, wheel cylinders and all lines and hoses, dual master cylinder (for safety), 4 new shocks, new convertible top cylinders and motor, rebuilt original fuel pump (not hooked up, using electric fuel pump), new water pump, new battery, 4 new tires (radial for safety), complete new exhaust system, new electronic ignition (reliability), radiator re-cored, fuel tank relined, all new tune up parts, new Hayden transmission cooler installed, new temp and volt gauges, new NOS optional (correct for car) wheel covers, new head gaskets, new electric cooling fan (old fan with car and was working properly), undercoated, HAVE RECEIPTS. The engine itself has been gone over and everything works as it should. Tons of power and runs very smooth and quiet, A JOY TO DRIVE.
The exterior paint is very good and is the original color (Thitain Yellow) we estimate the paint is aprox 20+- years old and best we can tell only one repaint in 54 years. Seats, carpet, top boot and all interior appear to be the original installed in the factory. No rips or tears that we have seen on the interior anywhere and shows very nice. Original boot needs repair or replace but useable (snaps tender/missing). Top is very good condition (tan outside, black inside) as is the back window. All of the chrome is almost show quality (ie you have to really look to find any boo boos). All the glass and chrome trim around the glass also is in very good condition. This car Drives as Good as it Looks and is a REAL HEAD TURNER and TROPHY WINNER TOO (we have driven this car aprox 1500 miles and have fun watching the heads turn, see Christmas photo and note people looking at the car).
Four things remain that we know of that need to be repaired or replaced: Power seat motor? (or maybe plug or switch?, did not look), Factory AC/heater (all original parts in or with the car), horn (we have not even looked at it). With these items repaired (really just the AC) this car would have a high NADA book value as we type this of $59,455 (and you can own this car for much less) so this car can only go up in value = great investment car. Weather you want a really nice ORIGINAL car that their won't be 6 others like it at the same show or an Investment car, this one should be on your look/buy list.
If the new owner(s) of this car would like, arrangements can be made for us to drive this car to deliver it to the new owners anywhere in the state of Florida (we love driving it). Arrangements can be made for test drive and or any inspections a serious buyer may want. Receipts will be provided for all work done since we purchased this car to the new owner(s). We are long time (20+ years) members of the AACA. Any questions/concerns, PLEASE ASK. We want whomever purchases this car to be happy with this car so Please Ask Questions.
