Oldsmobile 442 1971 Description
Here is an opportunity to acquire a very original and highly sought after car. This 1971 Olds 442 convertible has never been restored or taken apart. Original mid-west car. always garaged and covered. I bought the car in Kansas in 2013 and the car was originally purchased in Arizona in 1971. Lots of misc. paperwork included with GM parts & service manual. Original protecto-plate included as well. Factory 455 engine is matching and was rebuilt some years ago with a mild cam added. Runs very strong with incredible low end torque. The rear gear was also changed at some point before I acquired the car to improve the drive-ability of the car at low speeds. The transmission may have been changed over from an automatic to the current 4-speed configuration but there is no way to know for sure due to the loss of Oldsmobile records many years ago. I researched this car from top to bottom and had many Olds experts look at the car before purchasing it. The general consensus is that if it was changed over. whomever did the conversion did it right. The car includes the correct factory console. Hurst shifter. etc. . all period correct. Even looking underneath the car you cannot be certain of the original set-up. Either way. there is not much debate as to the preferred set-up and the value and collect-ability of a 4-speed car vs. an automatic. This is the same disclosure that the previous owner provided to me so I am providing it here. This is a nicely optioned original car including factory A/C. power windows. tic toc tack. power trunk release. super stock II wheels. OAI (outside air induction) fiberglass hood. original Delco am/fm radio. front disc brakes. factory hood pins. etc. Period correct trumpet tip exhaust. Original Viking Blue paint code with one repaint many years ago but still shines and looks amazing. Factory correct white stripes have been clear coated and show very well. Factory correct. dealer installed rear wing included. Original pearl white interior with bucket seats. white top and matching boot. Car is just out of storage and has had all fluids changed. Suspension was also updated last year including all new shocks and springs front and back. new front brake pads and lines and 4-wheel alignment. The car rides. handles and stops perfectly. Drives down the road straight. no shimmy's or shakes. Car rides on BF Goodrich T/A's. The body is laser straight. no rust to be found on any panels or underside. The trunk includes the original factory splatter paint and mat. engine compartment is very clean. Original chrome is in amazing condition with only small spots showing any pitting. Dash. nbsp;gauges and console are in very good condition. All correct badging is intact. Power top is in very good condition. Goes up and down as it should and has no rips or stains. I do not know when that was replaced but it does not appear to be original. Original and period correct glass rear window. Here is what I know the car needs: A/C is all intact but needs recharging. Passenger side power window switch does not work. but window is operable from the driver's side. All other power window switches operate correctly. The clock does not work but the tachometer does. The power top switch was recently replaced but the top is currently activated off from a toggle switch under the dash that works fine. I just haven't rewired the new top switch. The paint does have some minor nicks. chips and scratches but still shows very well. One of the original T-3 headlights is dim but still works. All other lights work including interior. directionals. brake. etc. The hood is slightly misaligned on one side. The interior is original so it is slightly faded and the seats. springs are a little soft. Factory door panels and carpeting are faded some from the sun. The original Delco am/fm radio works sometimes but fades in and out and has some static. These are very minor items but I wanted to list everything that I am aware of. Overall. this is an incredible. original condition car that will only appreciate in value. There are very few cars left in this condition. I am happy to answer any questions but please no test pilots. The car is in storage but accessible to a serious buyer only. Please do not bid if you cannot or do not intend to follow through. No trades. I am only selling to finish another car I am working on. More photos will be uploaded soon.
