Oldsmobile Cutlass 1983 Description
1983 Cutlass. Originally was a 4.3 diesel. This car has a 4.8L swap with 4l60e transmission. The 4.8 most of same specs and block as 5.3 but just a little smaller. Rear differential is 3.73 gears with a limited slip center. New BFGoodrich 245/60/14 tires on rear. Front tires are good. Engine and trans were out of 2002 silverado with about 150,000 miles. I put new head gaskets, "blue" valve springs, and new cam(222 with 112lsa). Transmission was rebuilt with new converter. Car has new front and rear shocks. Used airtex fuel pump with corvette regulator filter on frame rail. I cleaned and sealed the orignial tank and reused the supply and return from it. Long Tube F body headers with O2 sensors. Dual exhaust with flowmaster 40 mufflers. Deleted evap, EGR, and rear O2. New radiator, condensor, drier, a/c compressor, and dual electric fans. Haven't charged A/C yet. All vacuum controls work in dash. Heat works fine with blower on all speeds. Speedo and Tach do not work but other gauges do as well as dash and console lights. Rear defogger doesn't work but I haven't looked very hard, could be a fuse or something simple. Both power window motors have been replaced. Needs headliner but foam backer is good. Floor boards, frame, and trunk pan are rust free. Paint is probably a 6-7 out of 10. It's 30+ years old paint with fading on top but most areas would probably buff out pretty good. Body is solid with a few little dings but no major dents. Glass is good. Wipers and washer work. I installed an Alpine radio but haven't changed original speakers. Seats are rip free but not new. You can see in the pics that they are in very good shape and not torn. I did the swap and tune myself . I wanted a driver and not necessarily a street demon so the tune is mild. Wide band sensor and digital gauge go too. I got it to idle good at all ambient temps and played a little with shift points but didn't mess with timing or power enrichment. There should be quite a bit of power avail if you wanted it. I've put about 3000 miles on it since the swap. It drives really straight down the road and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere.
