Mercury Cougar 1969 Description
This is a one of one factory original 428 Cobra Jet XR7 Cougar with the C6 Automatic Trans, Elite Marti Report included. This vehicle retains its original engine, transmission and 9” 31 spline locking rear axle. Original Holley, intake and smog equipment has long been lost to history. Car is extremely well documented with original buck tag, built sheets, door tag, dash VIN tag and fender apron (exposed and confidential) VIN’s. The car was a California/Nevada car (Sold in San Jose) until I brought it to Florida… I am the third registered owner. Car had Zero rust (was not a vinyl roof optioned carJ ) and no accidents and is complete down to the original AM 8-Track stereo and door speakers. Car still has its original radio antenna. The underside is shown it its glory… not pretty but zero rust through, very, very solid.
I recently rebuilt the engine (partial VIn stamped on pad) and rear end and to date it has about 200 miles on it. Transmission is the original S servo cast iron tail shaft (partial VIN stamped) which was rebuilt before I got the car. I rebuilt all brakes but did not change out steering and suspension as it appears there is very little or no apparent wear on the original components.
Body had one cheap repaint many years ago that was mostly faded off exposing the factory applied enamel. I stripped the body to bare metal and applied epoxy primer before starting paint work which is in PPG’s base coat clear coat in its original color. Car was painted factory correct with only doors anddecklid on. Car uses its original front and rear valances as well.Interior upholstery, carpet, etc. has all been replaced. Upperand lower dash was taken out and all switches and other components were replaced along with the heater core and evaporator core. All other A/C components are new as well including compressor, dryer, expansion valve and condenser. The chrome trim and wheel rims are starting to show their age but all mechanicals work perfect. 95% of allfastenersare AMK correct or original FoMoCo.
I encourage anyone to have the car inspected and a lift is available for inspection of the underside Monday through Saturday. I can tell you anything you want to know about this Cougar I’vehadsince 2005. I performed all work or supervised directly all work done on the car.If you are serious, you will want to email me so we can talk on the phone.
