This is a very special 1946 Mercury 8 2dr Coupe. Although there is no documentation that can be obtained to prove the claim, am aware that I am the first civilian registered owner of this Mercury. During the frame off restoration, had a happenstance meeting with a gentleman who overheard me talking about the car while out at lunch one day. He explained to me that he knew my car, obviously thought that he knew of the 46 coupe, ut not my specific car. He went on to explain to me every large dent that was in the car and how it got there. This perked up my ears, ut still didn't make me completely believe the guy. But, nce he was able to accurately describe what was wrong with the engine, hich was the #7 valve being burnt, nd why it had been put in storage, suddenlybelievedeverything the man said. So what makes this car so extra special? It spent its original life as a pursuit vehicle for the Texas Rangerschasingdown bootleggers between San Antonio and Abilene. Every dent that was in it came from physically running another car off the road. He knew this information because he was a retired Texas Ranger.The frame off restoration was completed approximately 1 1/2 years ago.During the restoration, s many original parts as possible were rebuilt and what parts couldn't be fixed, ere replaced with brand new original replacement parts from the era. All the chrome is original and was refinished. The heater and radio were rebuilt and are original to the car and in working condition. An original V8 Flathead engine was fit to the car with thetransmission and running gearbeing completely rebuilt. This car was built to be able to drive across country and not have any issues along the way. The car runs and drives like a dream and has already won many awards at car shows across Texas and Oklahoma. When you purchase this beautiful Merc, spare engine that needs rebuilt will accompany it as well as a bran new Mitchelloverdrive system.
