Mercury Cougar 1969 Description

Up for auction is a 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7 GT M Code Car. This car has 74,446 original miles on it. This very rare Cougar is a 99.99% rust free California car with a laser straight body. It has all of its original factory sheet metal with the exception of the hood, hich had a crease on the rail where the hood hinge attaches, o I just picked up a grade A++ ram air hood with a factory hood scoop. There are only 3-4 small door dings on the entire car and 1 small rust hole the size of a pencil eraser, hich is located at the bottom drivers’ side corner of the rear window, here the vinyl top trim once was. There have been no previous accidents, ody damage, r rust to the car, ther than that mentioned. This is by far one of the cleanest and straightest Cougar I have seen in over 36 years of buying, estoring, nd selling Cougars. The heavy lifting is all done and the car is ready to be finished. Over $8,000 in parts and labor were just pumped into this car. The virgin engine was just rebuilt and installed into the car. The engine compartment and all of the components were cleaned and repainted back to original. The engine block was bored .030 over and it has a new oil pump, rank, earings, od bearings, istons, ings, iming chain, V cam, am bearings, ifters, ods, tc. The carburetor was completely rebuilt by a shop that specializes in Holly carburetors. Many new parts have been installed such as new hood hinges, new battery, attery cables, ater pump, adiator, oses, an shroud, il pressure sending unit, nd master cylinder just to name a few. The car has all new parts in the front end including coil springs, oil spring seats, hocks, pper and lower control arms, pper and lower ball joints, nner and outer tie rod ends, ie rod sleeves, tc. The front brakes have been replaced with new calipers, otors, ads, nd hardware. In addition, ew front wheel bearings were installed. The transmission was flushed and a new filter and gasket were installed. The car also comes with the original California black license plates. The factory options consisted of Gold exterior with Gold interior, lack Vinyl Roof, T Equipment Group, ower Side Windows, enter Console, ower Front Disc Brakes, ower Steering, ir Conditioning, M/FM Radio, inted Glass, eluxe belts/Warning Light, eavy Duty Battery, tyle Steel Wheels, ront Bumper Guards, MX Merc-O-Matic Transmission and the very rare Speed Control option. The car was originally leased to the Philco-Ford Aeronutronic Division in Newport Beach California, s per the Marti Report. The car is pretty much all there except for the center console, he original style steel wheels, nd the AM/FM Radio. The heater core was bypassed since I didn’t know the condition of it and I didn’t want to contaminate the new cooling system. The car does come with an original 3-spoke rim-blow steering wheel and I will install a full set of 4 nice, sed,Magnum 500 wheels with Goodyear Eagle ST 215/70R14 tires (pictured the separate photo). The car runs great and drives, ut itstill needs rear brake work, xhaust,a front wheel alignment, aint, new vinyl roof (if so desired), ome interior work, ome A/C work, nd some trim/bright work. The bumpers were re-chromed a while back and still look good. Once properly finished, his car will bring $45-$50K at auction. I should know, ince I just sold a 1969 Cougar XR7 for $37,000 at the Russo and Steele Auction in Scottsdale, rizona last January. That car was a non-number matching car that was originally a 351 2V changed over to a 351 4V. In addition, t had a 15 year old, wo-tone green paint job, t had previous and current rust issues, t still needed new tires, t wasn’t GT equipped, nd it didn’t have the Power Window and Speed Control options that this car has. I have included a photo of it in case anyone wants to look it up at the Russo and Steele web site. I have also included a photo of my other 1969 Cougar XR7 428 CJ, hich has the same gold color so that you can see just how beautiful this car would be once it is painted. A Marti Report is attached. More photos are available upon request and I have tons of them. If you have any questions, can be reached by phone @ 602-354-7739.
