Mercury Cougar 1976 Description
Up for bids here is a 1976 Mercury Cougar 'barn find' rolling chassis. It was equipped with a 400 V8 and a C6 transmission when new. but will accept nearly any Ford V8 engine and automatic transmission you have to put in it. This car sat for many years abandoned in a repair shop. so it's dirty and has some rust from sitting. but the floors are super clean with NO rust holes to fix. and the only rearl rot is a few small holes on the rear quarter panels behind the rear tires. I drove this car home a few months ago. so it still steers and stops and will be easy to load onto a trailer for transport. I pulled the engine and transmission for another project. I am including the transmission crossmember. and the throttle cable. shift cable and wiring are in tact so this car could be back on the raod in a weekend. easily. You just need a drivetrain. The car is red with a red cloth interior and has a power bench seat. manual windows and locks. tilt wheel. cruise control and factory 8-track stereo in the dash. The air conditioning components are gone. but the heater core is in place. There is no radiator in the car. as the original one was leaking. The vinyl roof is ripped (where a horse bit it. of all things!) and there is some surface rust at the spot where it is torn. but no holes. and it is still a very solid car overall. Originally from Montana. this car sat in storage here in Michigan for many years. but was never driven through our awful winters so the floor is super clean (no rust). just lots of dirt! I have NO TITLE for this car. but it isn't difficult to get one for a vehicle of this age here in Michigan. and I imagine it's not too hard in other states as well. but check into it before you bid. This would also make a great parts car if you are building a similar Cougar. Montego. Torino. Elite or Ranchero. It has new power steering lines on it and the pump as well as the alternator are included with the car. No battery. but the cables will be there for you. Again. this is a very solid project car that could very easily be restored and driven again. I drove it home less than three months ago so there is still even a few gallons of gas in the tank! It drove straight and rode great. The doors and hood open and close well. the windows roll up and down and the glass is all good. The lights worked fine. too. You won't get an easier resto! Look over the pictures and feel free to call or text with any questions you may have. or aske them here. I can send you more pictures of whatever you would like to see. My cell number is 313-694-8564. Shipping this car is YOUR responsibility and the cost of shipping is all on you. I can store it here for a couple of weeks after the auction ends while you arrange transport if you'd like. I will help load the car and will write you a bill of sale. $250 deposit by Pay Pal is required at the end of auction. and the balance can be paid in cash when you pick up the vehicle. or before your transport arrives here to get it. Thanks for looking. and have a great Summer project car season!
