Mercury Cougar 1968 Description

Original. documented. numbers matching 390. close ratio 4 speed GT. All original. unrestored and unmolested. This car was bought new in 1968 by a man in my home town. He was killed in Vietnam in ’69. his father kept the car until his passing in 1982. The car was then repainted and sold to another man in my town. The second owner only put 3. 00 miles on the car from ’82 to ’86. The car wasn’t driven from ’86 to 2012 when I bought the car. The second owner stored the car in a heated house garage for 30 years and I have the cared stored in a heated garage. In 2012. I replaced all the wheels. brake cylinders. I rebuilt the MIDLAND vacuum booster and replaced the master cylinder. I replaced all the rubber hoses and belts. New fuel pump. I had the Original HOLLEY carb rebuilt. New cap. rotor. points. plugs and wires. The car has run great for the last three years. I take it to shows and cruise around in it. In the last three years I have put 3. 00 miles on the car without fail. All lights and the sequential turn signals work as new. Wipers work. Glass is in great shape. The body is solid with no rest patching. The floor boards. trunk. doors unibody frame rails. spring shackles and spring eye pockets are solid with no rust. The torque box on the driver side does have a hole in it. the rust is not on the frame rail or the floor board it’s just on the back side of the gusset. the passenger side torque box is solid. What the car does need: *Fuel gauge doesn’t work. I installed new sending unit and it still doesn’t work. I think it’s in the dash pod because the gauge has always been at half tank. * Radio doesn’t work. * Heater blower works on all setting but it blows cold air only. I didn’t dig into it because I only drive the car on nice days. *Driver side seat is torn. You can buy a repro cover from West Coast Classic Cougar for 350. 00. But they told me not to replace it because the car is original. I'm not interested in trades. Buyer is responsible for shipping or pick up. If you have any questions or need additional pics. Send a message and I will reply.
