Mercury Other 1949 Description
Same owner for 15 years. known PO since the ’70’s. One re-spray. engine rebuilt in the ’80’s. otherwise never taken apart. (The original color is a dark blue with a hint of metallic. the first year for metallic on a Mercury I’m told). NEW maple and ash wood kit from the ’80’s. never out of the box. excellent condition. These kits are very expensive. Never crashed or repaired. Said to be in the first month of production due to the wood headliner bows. still intact. see pic. Never rusty. one small spot on the floor the size of a iPhone. One dent on a front fender. curb rash on the front and rear valance but easy to unbolt for repair. At least 40 years of dry Southern California indoor storage. Many extras. needs a gas tank and a door skin but otherwise very complete. 18 said to remain (I saw this on the net). most fixed up. Is this the only unmolested restoration candidate remaining?Only bid if you are completely satisfied that you have seen everything you need to see in the photos and your questions have been answered to your satisfaction. I believe a well restored ’49 Merc Woodie will capture in the range of $200K before the end of 2015 (if one come up for sale). This is a great opportunity for the savvy restorer or the forward thinking enthusiast. I am in no rush to sell. I just haven’t gotten to it and think a new eager owner might. Bidders are encouraged to request more information or photos. I will respond as promptly as I can. The car is currently registered in California on a PNO title. Even at 66 years old a nicely done '49 Merc Woodie is drivable and classy.
