Mercury Monterey 1959 Description

Hello,

You are looking at a very nice survivor 1959 Mercury Monterey 4 door sedan with 38,000 original miles. It's factory 2 tone bermuda sand on the bottom, and marble white on the top. You never see factory two tone 59 Mercurys. I own several and have only seen 2.

I bought the car out of Oklahoma. A rich Banker/Oil family owned it from new and drove it for 4 years. On year 4 an elderly Aunt scratched the front pass fender and dented the rear bumper. The family pulled it into a barn in 1963, put on blocks, and put a cover on it.

Over the last 15 years a local mechanic shop owner noticed the car while delivering parts. The answer always was 'It's not for sale'. Out of the blue he get's a call a year ago to help them get the car ready to sell. He took the car into town, cleaned the gas tank, repaired the brakes, changed all fluids, new points, fuel filter, and put a new battery in it. He then washed it and took it to a couple local car shows while he tried to sell it. I found the car and bought it, but it's time for me to send it down the road as I need room.

Exterior :

No rust on the car.

Front fender ( the one scratched by the aunt ) was repainted in 1963. Old laquer is cracked and the tan was never painted back on top. You can see in pics.

Rear bumper is dented and a piece of rear chrome is broke. You will see in pics.

One rear window has a small crack. From WS has a star but could be repaired really easy.

Rear Driver 1/4 top is faded and I was told there was a bag left on that spot for eons. Also a spot on the decklid of wore/rub spot.

One rear taillight chrome sleeve is faded bad.

Interior :

I was told by the mechanic that the seats were perfect when he pulled it out. He, his wife, and son sat in the front on the way to the shows after he got it running. The old material on the front seat bottom split sadly, it was just too weak for 3 people riding up there.

Factory rubber floor has a spot cracked out in back but the rest is fine. This is very rare to have a factory rubber floor.

Radio works. Rear seat looks like it hasn't been sat in. Headliner nice. Dash nice.

Drive train :

Engine runs great. Tranny shifts great. Needs shocks for sure.

Radiator leaks a little so could probably use a dip and seal.

Tires are old but good for local shows. If you plan to do 80mph all day you may want some new Coker tires.

This is a car that needs a guy that appreciates these types of cars. A super picky guy would nitpick the things I pointed out above, but it's a rare cool old car for someone that appreciates original low mileage cars.

If you have any more questions please let me know.
