Jeep Wagoneer 1983 Description
1983 Grand Wagoneer Limited Always Garaged Original Paint Florida Wagoneer. This Wagoneer has led an extremely easy life, nd has been properly maintained for use at the summer house. It is strong, mooth, uiet and aesthetically good enough to be a Survivor Class show car contender. It has been mechanically gone thru and kept completely as it left the factory- new radiator, ater pump, an clutch, ir pump, lternator, arburetor, /c (compressor and complete system conversion), rebuilt transmission and torque converter, rakes including wheel cylinders and rotors, tire, elts and hoses, CU, tc.. All the window lifting gears have been replaced with the OEM replacements including the tailgate. It looks and runs like it is 2 or 3 years old. All the original Emissions equipment is still in place, s are the factory floor mats, he owner’s manual, he jacking equipment in its bag, nd the little wrench for adjusting the roof rack. The factory jeep floor mats still are protecting the Orange Shag Carpet. The factory Dolby Digital cassette radio puts out remarkably good sound thru modern speakers hidden behind original grills. The unused pigtail for the optional trailer towing package is in its bag in the jack compartment. The luggage cover is still in place over the rear area. The dash is perfect and has no cracks. The garage it is was stored in had windows across the back and there is some sun fading on the seat backs. The headliner and overhead lights are perfect. The leather has some patina and wear but is in very good shape and overall the interior really is in excellent condition. The original AMC keys are present. I bought this vehicle 9 or 10 years ago after it had had a long slumber in a garage. I went thru it and kept it at the vacation house for a few years and sold it to a friend down the road who did the same thing. I kept up on it and drove it around all these years since he is one of those guys whose wife hangs up the pictures in the house. (I’ll hear about that). His kid is now in high school and usage of house is less and usage of the truck has dropped to under 300 miles a year. It has served reliably and faithfully as a saloon car and for day trips in nice weather and been in several local shows, e took it to Daytona Jeep week a few years ago and the jeep guys went nuts over it, o the great dismay of my friend who took his just completed $35,000 prof restoration on his 360 CJ7 on 37s: “It’s like I am bloody invisible over here!” 90% original paint- the 6” below the far back windows and across the top of the tailgate was repainted due to sun fading about 5 years ago, t was carefully matched in color and to the 1983 factory quality. The wood was redone at that time as well. The original paint is a little thin on a couple spots on the hood and along the driver’s side rain gutter, nd there are few small chips and imperfections here and there from 33 years of careful use. The paint maintains an excellent shine and the vehicle shows remarkably. Finding these in good original paint is very unusual. The doors all open and shut like a vault with no sagging whatsoever. Issues? For what it is ..really not many. The cruise control keeps gaining speed (new problem this year), he new tires seem to have flat spotted a bit, ut are getting better each time I drive it, he hot idle is a little rough – probably from the sta-bil and no use- but is also getting better each time I drive it. The factory fog lights are not working- I will take a look at them this week but no promises. And Of course you must keep in mind that no matter how you romanticize and how nice this thing is- this IS a vehicle from the dark ages of American build and technology. It is one of the Nicest ones ..but still…there is wind noise, he gas mileage is impressively bad with the a/c on (and off really)…just a lot of things that would never be put up with today. It has one leak left, ngine oil, bout double the size of a quarter after you shut it down- probably the rear main and if so I would not touch it. (See above). What else?…there is no rust on this Jeep – you have a couple areas of surface rust under the hood as shown, he little paint imperfections and the drivers side drip rail as shown. The entire bottom looks like the top if it was never washed or waxed. If there is a common problem area you know about and would like photographed let me know – and I will be happy to comply
