Jeep Wrangler 1989 Description
This Jeep sat for over 2 years before a friend asked me to see if I could fix it. I spent a couple hours changing the fuel filter, leaning thecarburetor, nstalling new distributor cap, otor, park plugs, nd spark plug wires before trying to fire it up. I got it started after a few tweaks and let it idle. It sounded like it had a couple stuck lifters so I decided to let it warm up and then pour in some engine treatment to see if they would loosen up. After about 10 minutes, he engine slowed and then cut off. It would no longer turn over. I think it seized up. I don't think it's anything terrible as it was just idling and there was no "out of the ordinary" noise before it shut down or any loss of oil. It may be as simple as a stuck piston. I couldn't get it to advance with a breaker bar but I didn't want to force it too hard. I took the top side of the motor apart (valve cover off, emoved the rocker arms and rods to check them, one were bent so that's a good sign) but didn't see anything from there. There was fresh oil on the top side so it was getting oil to there so it wasn't "running dry" and the oil pressure was good while it was running. I don't know if it'll need a complete rebuild or not.The rest of the bad that I know of: it will need new brake lines, prings are rusted as you can see in the pictures, eeds new exhaust, lutch master cylinder (I bought one but didn't install it and it's included with the Jeep), arious parts and pieces in the engine compartment (I would suggest replacing all the hoses since it sat for so long), tc.
The good: the body seems to be in pretty good shape. No major rust that I could see. The floor pans are in good shape. The soft top is in good shape. There was a little water on the passenger floorboard but it has mats that seemed to contain it. All the gauges seemed to work when I started it up.
I think this would make a great project Jeep for someone with the proper place and tools to do it. If you have any questions, eel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer them.
