Jeep CJ 1946 Description
What we have here is 95% of the way to being a totally awesome retro offroader - not the lifted V8 junk that most people do. but rather something that keeps the classic style of the Willys Jeep and improves its performance in sensible ways. Significant modifications/upgrades: * Engine replaced with a completely rebuilt Studebaker Champion flat 6 (170ci) * Second 10-gallon fuel tank mounted under passenger seat in place of toolbox. * Switching valve on the dash to control which fuel tank is used. * Brakes upgraded to 11" drums on all wheels. * Dual master brake cylinder installed. * Custom armor shield protecting the oil pan * Mount for Browning 1919 machine gun on rollbar (gun not included) Other work done: * Hardened valves * Drive shafts rebuilt * New radiator * Custom professional radiator shroud to fit Studebaker engine with Willys radiator * Optima battery * NOS Studebaker carburetor * New Rancho 1" lift springs * Transmission professionally rebuilt (stock gearing) * Transfer case professionally rebuilt (stock gearing) * Complete 12V electrical system * New alternator * New water pump * Electric fuel pump * 6-Blade heavy duty cooling fan * Really great looking old-style narrow tires Other details* Stock 5. 38:1 gearing in the axles * Roll bar with gas/water can mounts on both sides * Vehicle primered; needs paint * Clean. intact title * New battery cables * New shocks * Navy CJ-V35U body * Includes tow bar* Includes mechanics' manuals for the CJ2A and Studebaker Champion. * Includes tailgate and chains (does not fit with the pintle hitch - leave it off or replace the hitch with a normal ball hitch). The Studebaker Champion engine was a popular Jeep swap back in the 50s and 60s. because it bolts right up to the stock CJ2A transmission but gives about 50% more torque and horsepower. It's a sweet engine that will drive this thing virtually up a tree with is gearing. The Willy's doesn't go fast. but it goes anywhere. I added a number of other features to make it a great vehicle for extended offroad trips - racks for two 5-gallon cans on the rollbar for either water of gas. and I replaced the passenger seat tool box with a second gas tank. That gives you a 20-gallon fuel capacity. with up to 10 gallons more in the cans. That's huge range for a Willy's! The fuel pump and gas gauge are wired through a toggle switch on the dash. so you can select which tank to use. This means that when one goes dry. you have a second full and ready to go (instead of draining both simultaneously). I custom-made a socket welded to the top of the rollbar to mount a Browning 1919 machine gun - the workhorse of the US Army in World War II. The mounting pintle is an Israeli 30/50 model. which can hold the 1919 or a Browning M2 . 50 caliber. if you want to get really serious! The pintle pulls off with no work for a more discreet appearance when you don't want to tote a machine gun around. To be clear. the gun is not included in this auction - but I am willing to sell it as a separate transaction to the Jeep buyer if they are interested. per all applicable laws. The Jeep is not currently running. because the starter has died and I don't have the time or energy to fix it right now (it makes a nasty squealing noise when you try to start it). Hence the low opening price. I have tried pulling the spark plugs and pushing the Jeep while in 3rd gear. and the engine does turn when I do so - it's not frozen up. Just something wrong with the starter. I have a huge stack of receipts for all the work done to this Jeep - this was professional specialist work and not shade-tree mechanics. The title is clean. and the Jeep is an Arizona vehicle with a totally solid frame. I am moving to a new house. and have to sell the Jeep to help finance to move. My loss; your gain. What is cooler than a Willys Jeep with a machine gun on it? Nothing. that's what! Here's a recent video of it running a couple weeks ago: https://www. youtube. com/watch?v=40xBVR2Onzk
