GMC Other 1938 Description
A super rare 1938 GMC T23 truck with over $10k invested to date!!!
This is a great running and driving project truck. Nice and straight original sheet metal. There is virtually no rust except bottom of driver’s door. This was a local Colorado truck that was parked on a ranch since the early 1950's. The former owner and I put lots of time and money into this truck and it does have a clear Colorado title.
Here’s what’s been done…
It has the original 257 six cylinder engine which runs great. The 4 speed transmission shifts great through all of the gears. The clutch is completely rebuilt and at that time checked the bearings and seals in the transmission. The carburetor and fuel pump are rebuilt. It has a custom made brass radiator in the original configuration so it fits correctly and is mounted as the original was. The gauges are rebuilt. There is enough wiring to start and drive the truck. The generator is wired to the voltage regulator and does charge. All of the glass has been replaced, the window regulators were removed, cleaned, and greased and work well. Both sides of the windshield swing out and there is minimal rust on the bottom and top of the glass frames where the frame meets the cab. The headlight shells are restored, repainted, NOS lenses installed, and the reflectors re-silvered but are not currently connected. The master cylinder, heel cylinders, and rubber brake lines have all been replaced. The brake shoes looked virtually new when the drums were pulled off. The wheel bearings were repacked and new seals installed. All six of the wheels have been stripped and powder coated. The tires are in good condition as they came off of a 10k mile 1960's fire truck. Most of the exterior was sanded with 100 grit paper and sprayed with gloss clear to preserve the original patina. It also shows off the incredible solid metal that surrounds the entire truck. The seats were just upholstered and look incredible. The truck runs drives and stops but still need work depending on the level you want to take. Things that still need to be done include weather stripping, connect lights, and installing whatever kind of bed you desire….it could be a cool pickup, a wrecker, a car hauler, a flatbed….the choses are endless. It is a running driving project.
Here’s a list of additional parts that go with the truck:
Original exhaust system shield.
Heat deflector which mounts on the exhaust manifold and directs heat to the small door on the firewall.
Roof mounted lever actuated turn indicator, aka "Trafficator".
Original hub socket, lug wrench, tire iron and starter handle to crank the engine by hand.
Extra carburetor
Original 1939 brochure and original service manual
….plus lots of small misc parts which I won't even try to list.
