GMC C1500 1972 Description
FOR SALE!!!1Hello Ebay,
This listing is for a 1972 GMC 1500 Pickup Truck. This truck is 2WD. It has 350ci engine and 350 Turbo automatic transmission. The engine runs smooth and quiet, nd the transmission shifts smoothly and pulls strong. This truck has a lot of rare options for its age: It has power steering, ower brakes, ront disc brakes, ear leaf springs, liding rear window, nd full gauge/instrumentation package. The odometer reads 36,000 miles, 'm not sure if this is 36,000 or 136,000, ut I believe this is original miles considering the condition of the truck. I bought this to drive and restore as a project and it was daily driven until just a couple years ago.
This truck is very original and in unmolested condition. The dash is uncut and original, nd I believe the body panels to be original. It does have some rust in the usual old truck locations: the lower rear cab corners, ower door jambs, ower door sills, ottom of doors, ower area of fenders, round the drip rails on roof. There are some places where the rust goes all the way through, uch as the door sills and rocker panel area. There are also a couple of small rust holes in the roof corners where water collects in the drip rails. I would judge the rust damage on truck to be minor in some places to moderate in others. The doors open and close smoothly and they sit in their jambs with consistent gaps all around indicating that the cab is still structurally sound and is not flexing. Amazingly, he floor panels are in excellent condition and are rock solid with no holes.
The bed of the truck is in decent condition, here is some dents and surface rust, ut no rust holes. The bed rails are straight and true. The tailgate is also in good condition and its latching mechanism works fine. The frame is solid with no visible cracks or warping, nly some surface rust. The body panels are mostly straight with only a few small dents and dings here and there. Most of the paint is still there, hough it is peeling and scaling in a few places. There are a few places with surface rust, ut for the most part the body is straight solid.
All the glass on this truck is in great condition. Windshield has no cracks or chips. Passenger side vent window frame will need replacing but the glass is good. The truck is complete with all trim. All taillights and side markers are intact and working. Interior lamp and cargo light work also. Instrument panel and gauge lighting works as well. Speedometer works well and is pretty accurate, fuel gauge also works. This truck has full gauge package including ammeter, oolant temperature, nd oil pressure gauges. Temp and oil pressure gauge don't seem to be working. Heater and fan work. AM radio makes a quiet humming sound, don't know if it plays or not, ay need a new speaker. The windshield wiper switch is broken, ut if you fiddle around with it, t does work. Headlight switch and dimmer switch work fine. Headlights, arker lights, rake lights, nd turn signals work fine.
Under the hood is a smooth running 350CI engine with 4-barrel carburator. The power steering leaks and whines quite a bit, robably needs replacement. Radiator has pin hole leaks(one reason I stopped driving it everyday). The brakes work, ut need attention(another reason I stopped driving it). The fuel line was leaking, ut I recently replaced that. The transmission leaks a little fluid, ut I suspect this is just from sitting up, ried up seals and such. I also replaced the water pump a couple years ago, he original is available upon request(if you're into that sort of thing). I also replaced the ignition switch, oltage regulator, nd neutral safety switch. The wiring harness appears to be intact(not cut up or modified), ut recently the truck seems to be slowly draining battery when left parked for long period of time. I haven't had time to find out what's causing this. I suspect the alternator.
The best feature of this truck is that it runs great. The engine cold starts with just a few pumps of the gas pedal, nd warm starts with just a bump of the ignition key. It runs very quiet and has good power. It does not smoke, nock, r stumble. The transmission shifts through the gears smoothly and pulls strong. As a matter of fact, have used this truck on several occasions to pull other cars home after they broke down. I'm not sure of the rear end gear, ut this thing will out-pull my "95 Dodge truck all day long. The truck has heavy duty suspension with leaf springs in the back, I haven't seen many trucks of this generation with this set-up. It drives down the road straight, oesn't pull or anything, ust a bit of sloppy feel on center (the old truck steering feel). It drives down the road pretty good considering the front end needs rebuilding.
I bought this as a restoration project/work truck, ut now I don't have the time or money to work on it. I've got too many project cars and something's gotta go. This is a good solid truck to restore or use for parts. With a little work it could be made road ready and used daily again, s is.
I am willing to provide additional pictures upon request for bidders only.
