Ford F-100 1972 Description
This is a California truck, born and bred. Made in the San Jose plant, it's always lived here in sunny California. As you can see from the photos, this is a rust free truck, and I'm told it was always stored inside (which shows). It was covered by a camper shell for most of its life so the bed looks great. Original paint, incredibly rare to find on trucks of this vintage. The patina is smooth and soft, and the truck has the authentic dings, chips and so forth for a 45 year old vehicle! This truck has terrific "curb appeal" as you can see from the photos, with that super short bed and great proportions. If you look around on the prices on these trucks, you will find ones that have been cheaply resprayed or filled with non-stock parts - try finding one this original and see how those are priced. They're incredible hard to find in this high level of unrestored condition.Automatic transmission (C6, the best Ford ever made), 360 V-8 engine, power steering. The brakes are NOT power.
The truck runs and drives very well, we drive it several times a week (as long as it's not raining). We take it on the freeway all the time, feels great. Sliding rearwindow is a nice featuresince it does not have A/C. All lights, hazards and signals work, though a couple of the light bulbs in the instrument panel need to be replaced (I never drive this truck at night so it hasn't been a priority to do this).
We keep up all our vehicles with proper maintenance done by the best vintage automotive mechanics in Los Angeles. This truck was a recent project, and here is the list of recent work that was done to it by the mechanics at Crown Auto here in Los Angeles (vintage truck and car specialists):
- Brand new seat upholstery and padding (from stock vendor of OEM seat material, in its original color)- New black OEM carpet- New OEM headliner-All new weatherstripping around the doors- 4 new shocks- 2 new wheel / brake cylinders- Intake manifold gasket replaced- Valve cover gaskets replaced- Turn indicator switch- New wiper motor- New radiator and hoses- All fluids flushed and replaced- All new filters- New headlamps- New hazard relays- New window felts and anti-rattle kit installed- New dash acrylic windows for the instruments- New valve stems just to be safe (tires are only a couple years old)
The truck drives great, it's smooth and quiet and starts right up. Power steering is smooth and very strong. I just purchased a brand new 8" power boost and master cylinder for the brakes that I will include with the truck if the price ends up being high enough. It's an easy install for a mechanic and that will give more braking power. Also - it has a spare tire underneath in the factory mount - the original one!
You'll notice the large scratch on the driver side front fender. Lookslike a small dent that was pushedback in. The front grill is also very slightly tweaked, looks like a fender bender in its past. Thankfully the owner did not do any repainting which would haveruined the truck's rare degree of originality. This sort of evidence of patina is what everyone is looking for these days because it establishes the original nature of the truck and these vehicles are only totally original once. The moldings are aged and faded, as you'd expect for parts of that age, but mostlythe aluminum still looks great. There is a nearly perfect circle of slightly discolored paint on the exact center of the hood about 3" in diameter - looks to me like something may have been attached there at some time using an adhesive, but Ican't tell. It's not very noticeable. The radio does not work, but I am told it'sjust because the speaker is dead - I do not know for sure.
The truck does not have a foam dash pad - the metal dash has the original factory exterior color paint that it left the factory with, and the slots forthe dash pad have been covered by tiny color-matched sheets of sheet aluminum (about 1.5" x .5" each). Not the most gorgeous job, but a common technique to avoid the endless cycle of replacing the foam dash pads that always crack and need to be replaced. These are just glued on with metal glue, so they can easily be plucked if you decide to install one of the foam dash replacements that they still make for these trucks - it's a plug and play job. A pair of air duct covers from its original dash were sanded and color-matched and installed in the factory screw holes, so they look good to me.
The truck smells great - it does NOT smell like anyone has ever smoked in it, which is rare for these trucks when they are in original condition like this. Because ofthe new interior items it has a new car smell! The value of the improvements done to the truck listed above cost over $4,000 (parts and labor combined). It has a fresh oil change and is ready to roll!
I wouldn't be selling the truck but I only have room for two cars in the garage and I just bought something else so I'm moving this one along. Please note that I will be removing and retaining the license plates, license plate frames and the hat rack I installed - those are not included in the sale.
This truck is being sold AS IS and WHERE IS (in Los Angeles, California). Can'tverify the truck's mileage either, of course. It could have gone around the wheels, but the condition of the truck suggests it also could be accurate. I just have no idea. There is NO warranty, whether express or implied. The descriptions in this listing were made solely for illustration purposes only, and are not to beconstrued as a warranty of any kind, especially as I am not a car expert or mechanic (just an enthusiast). The buyer should inspect the truck in person prior to bidding/winning, or have a proxy do so for you. I am willing to make the truck available for inspection by any qualified mechanic or potential bidder. Any shipping of the truck is the soleresponsibility of the buyer, and I will not ship the truck before receipt of the purchase price in full. I must reserve the right to end the auction at any time (as it is for sale locally as well, of course).
