This is a 1984 Ford Tempo GL with factory Mazda 2.0 Diesel engine 5 speed manual transmission.
There are believed to have been less than 500 built. How many are left and in this condition?
The car is truly a fun car to drive and has a cult following.
It has factory A/C(usually needs a yearly charge). Also has working cruise control!!! It is mechanically sound. Car has 103,000 miles on the body, but only 3000 on new cylinder head and timing belts, (car has two timing belts, one for cam, and one for injection pump). We just recently replaced the fuel injection pump as well as gave it an oil change and transmission flush and fluid change. This has been a very fun little car to enjoy. Can get 45-55 MPG. At car shows it would bring more visitors than the mustangs because of its rarity, and that's no joke!!!(Not many people know of these things). Great conversation starter. I have seen a few of these up for sale in the last 5 years or so and not 1 of them have been in this condition There is no rust on the body or underside, it never seen winters and has spent most its life in Arkansas. There is a small patch of surface rust on one of the trunk gutters that could be sanded and covered in minutes.
The car could use some interior work and is faded from the hot sun of the south and a bit tired. Exterior has many scratches and small dents. Pictures make it look better than it is. It's an 80's interior so it needed work from the factory. Paint is all original and has some scratches and dings and small dents. Driver condition. Perfect for the Ford and/ or Mazda Diesel collector. Your collection is not complete without it.
This is for someone who likes to tinker on their hobby car. Fun car for the family road trips.
Few things it will need in the future:
Front passenger side wheel bearing. We checked it and it's safe for now but making some noise.
Dash light does not work
Tachometer is a bit jumpy
minor oil leak from the oil pan
One of the rear seat belt latches needs fixed.
Comes with original door and ignition keys as well as owners manual and shop manual.
