Ford Mustang 1973 Description
Who says early '70s Mustangs can't be A-list cars? This 1973 Ford Mustang convertible proves that cool comes in all shapes and sizes. Better yet, it's a real-deal Q-code car with great colors and lots of options. If you like the early '70s Mustangs, this is the one to own. You can't go wrong with a bright red Mustang convertible, and when so many of this car's contemporaries were beige, brown, or green, it really stands out. It has been repainted, and the finish is a few years old, so it's not perfect, but the overall appeal is hard to resist. The flaws it does show would be easy to erase with a professional buff, and it's been enhanced with a set of Mach I style side stripes to go with the blackout treatment on the Ram Air hood. 1973 Mustangs in particular have a distinctive look thanks to the body-colored urethane front bumper, and with hood pins and a front spoiler, it looks racy indeed. All the usual Mustang styling cues are there, from the running horse emblem up front to the three-element taillights out back, and it's been a long time since we've seen a '71-73 Mustang done this well. Then again, when was the last time you saw a Q-code convertible? This one was worth the investment. As far as we can tell, the handsome black and white interior is how this car came from the factory, and it's a nice upgrade from the usual plain white vinyl. For a convertible, the fabric is remarkably bright and things like the carpets and dash pad haven't been destroyed by UV rays. The Mustang's interior is a fairly luxurious place to be, and this one includes options like ice cold factory A/C, a mini console, and a power convertible top. There are a few very minor signs of age, but it's pretty clear that this car has always been treated as something special. The original AM/FM radio still lives in the dash and the gauges, which include a tachometer and auxiliary dials in the center stack are bright and crisp. More recently, a set of rubber Mustang-logo floor mats were added to keep the carpets in great shape and the cloth fabric on the seats is a lot more comfortable in the sun than sticky vinyl would be. Just in case, there's also a black convertible top, which is in great condition. The trunk is outfitted with a correct mat, full-sized spare, and correct plaid cover. That's the original, numbers-matching Q-code 350 cubic inch V8, which delivers great torque and spirited performance in the Mustang ragtop. The Q-code was the top engine in 1973, and featured a 4-barrel carburetor and matching heads, which were exclusive to the 4-barrel engine. You'll be surprised by how well it runs. It's nicely detailed under the hood, with Ford Blue engine enamel on the functional Ram Air air cleaner. It's tightly packed in there, but Ford also gave you finned valve covers to add a bit of a racy look, and we can't argue with the way this sucker runs. Underneath, there's a C4 3-speed automatic transmission and a set of 3.00 gears, so it's a comfortable highway car that's ready for a road trip, and the long-tube headers and dual exhaust system offer a pleasing burble that never gets annoying. Flashy Magnum 500 wheels always look great on a Mustang, and these carry big Firestone Firehawk radials all around.Rare and surprisingly quick, this neat red machine is a wonderful combination of great colors and great condition, making it the kind of Mustang that will always be in demand.
