Ford Model A 1931 Description
Please read the entire description before bidding on this item.I bought this car around 2001. I was told it had been restored in the 1970's and had seen limited use since and had also been garaged. It was in a garage when I bought it and has been in a garage registered and insured since. My initial intent was to make a hot rod but that did not happen. I did drive it around occasionally for the first several years I owned it and it ran and drove well. For an 85 year old car it is in good condition. I was told it was "frame on" restored in the 1970's and there is some evidence of a 1970's repair restoration, see pictures of inside the trunk. Another "frame on" restoration would not be very difficult and I have considered it but it would also make a great hot rod.The car is complete, the interior is all there but is somewhat dried out, the headliner is toast. It appears that at some point in it's life it received an engine swap from a 1929 Model A based on the engine number. I listed this car last year around this time before I put it into winter storage. I had let it sit in the garagefor a couple years not running so at the time it had a stuck valve in the number three cylinder and was running poorly. I made that clear in the listing. This past spring I removed the head, freed the valve andlapped the valve to the seat.I never had an overheating problem with the car but at my age it was difficult to see the Moto Meter temp gauge on the radiator cap. I wanted to enjoy driving it around over the summer. I added a temperature gauge from Snyder's Model A parts. I also added a new style leak-less water pump and anfourblade Model B fan. Engine runs at about 160 degrees or cooler driving and will go to about 175 degrees when idling for prolonged periods. The gauge makes monitoring temp easy. Car runs and drives well. It is a fun car to own and drive. The battery is weak but I will not replace it unless I still own the car in the spring and the spare tire is flat and unusable because the tire is shot. It is time to winterize it and put it in storage. I decided to list it again to see if someone wants it more than I do. If not, it is off to indoor heated winter storage.I am not anxious to part with it because I will probably not get another Coupe this complete andfor the price. The car is for sale locally so the auction may end early. Having been looking at Model A Coupes for the past at least fifteenyearsstandard and deluxe coupesin this condition are hard to find in the Northeast. It is complete, unmolested, not a Sport or Special Coupe and in good condition for it's age.It can be seen before purchase sono surprises when the trailer shows up and no expensive shipping fees and the aggravation that goes along with it. It would make a great restoration or a hot rod. Please look at the pictures and if you have questions ask.Car is available for inspection by appointment inNew York ZIP 11940. Car is registered and insured with a clear transferable New York State registration in my name. If you are seriously considering bidding and would like to view the car contact me via eBay.
