Ford Mustang 1965 Description

As to myself, I am a (66) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from Managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback that has only one negative feedback which I believe I should not have received. I was given the option to refund money to the buyer or he would leave negative feedback and ruin my 100% feedback. I did nothing wrong and always disclose everything in my ads so I declined. He left the one and only negative comment out of (1,147) transactions. Many of my transactions have been muscle cars, which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Australia and the Netherlands. My reputation for honesty is well known amongst muscle car lovers.

In the beginning….

The date was April 17, 1964. Intermediate sized muscle cars, with big block engines were gradually replacing the full sized muscle car. Lee Iacocca, Ford’s General Manager, had always envisioned a small sports car to be the next hot item in the street wars. Ford decided that instead of improving their lackluster intermediate, they would do the competition one better and introduce a whole new breed of automobile, the pony car. Originally designed as a two seater in the European tradition, Iacocca realized that true success depended on volume sales. Therefore the Ford Mustang was introduced as a 1965 model that was based on the compact Falcon to lower production costs. It came with an obligatory back seat and a multitude of options that would give the buyer an opportunity to customize their purchase, and generate extra profits for Ford. Plymouth faithful stress that their Barracuda beat the FordMustang to market by two weeks. But it was the Mustang, which racked up over 22,000 sales its first day and one million sales in its first two years, that turned the market and people’s attention to the pony car. The pony car class that the Ford Mustang helped create is the only class of muscle car that still exists today.

Ford added a fastback to its 1965 Mustang lineup, but the coupe continued to be the best seller of the group. The coupe outsold the convertible and fastback individually five to one, accounting for nearly 75 percent of total sales.

The first Mustang GT was introduced in April of 1965. They were available in all three body styles. Two optional V-8 engines were offered with the GT with either 225hp or 271 hp and a choice of a three-speed or four-speed manual, or a Cruise-O-Matic transmission. The '65 GT also included a special dashboard instrument cluster that became standard in 1966. The GT had stripes on the lower body sides, fog lamps in the grille, dual exhaust tips, and GT badges on the front fenders. The GT upgrade was an extra $165.03.

Interior: The interior is OK in some areas as the photos will show but other areas will need attention. There is new front and rear seat covers as well as carpet. The dash has no cracks. Door panels are OK. Door handles and window cranks have pitting. Headliner is intact but is sagging a little and needs cleaning. The package tray has aftermarket rear speakers installed and should be replaced. Visors and rearview mirror are operational. Kick panels are present but need to be restored. All gauges work and function as they should (speedo, fuel, oil, temp and amp). Heater and horn work but neither radio works? Steering wheel is in good shape but blinker arm needs to be replaced as it is pitted.

Exterior:

·Repainted dark blue but not with a lot of enthusiasm;

·Door handles are OK:

·Original bright work is good;

·Front and rear bumpers are driver quality:

·Good glass all around;

·As to body panels, I am quite sure they are all original and rust free.

·Rims and tires are good.

Trunk: The trunk looks rust free and very good with a spare but no jack assembly and a trunk mat.

Undercarriage: The undercarriage is in very good condition having virtually no rust or rot. See the photos. The dual exhaust appears to be fairly new. Brakes are good.

Engine Compartment: The engine compartment is OK with what appears to be a non-original 1966 289 sitting in the bay. It does start and run fine with plenty of power and no smoke. New upper and lower radiator hoses and new battery. All new windshield washer system but not electrically functional. New correct clip-down master cylinder. (Have original.) New antifreeze and power steering fluid have been added.

Transmission: The transmission shifts up and down the gears fine.

Electrical: Head lights, tail lights, blinker and fog lamps are working. Horn, wipers and heater blower are working.

ID Photos: Self-explanatory.

Misc: All of these extras are in the trunk.
