About this car:
The Ford Courier Sedan Delivery was built between 1952 and 1960 as a solution for those who needed cargo space but didn’t want or didn’t need a truck. Ford developed the the Sedan Delivery on the 1956 sedan platform – which itself was an updated version of the iconic 1955 Ford.
Ford built just 6,178 Couriers in 1957 and many (if not most) saw a hard life as a delivery vehicle for stores across the USA, they were used by everyone from florists and bakers, to builders and plumbers. Very few of these 1/2 ton couriers survived more than 20 or so years due to their hard lives and lack of perceived value – and they’re now a rare sight on the road.
The ’57 Sedan Delivery you see here is a very nice example of iconic car. – it’s been through a body-off restoration in the hands of Silver Star Street Rods in Washugal Washington. During the restoration process a rebuilt 325bhp, 390 cubic inch ford V8 was fitted with a rebuilt C6 transmission with a light shift kit. Both of these have only about 2000 miles on them since originally rebuilt and intstalled. Although not a stock option for this vehicle the original strait 6 or even the 292ci V8 left a lot to be desired in the way of performance. The engine runs excellent and purrs like a kitten. The transmission shifts perfectly and runs quietly with no slop.
From 1957 onwards Ford used a new tailgate design for the Sedan Delivery that involved the whole thing lifting up and sitting in a raised position with a brace on the left hand side. On this particular vehicle the brace was long gone and finding another turned out to be quite a task. So a stand rod was installed instead. Although it looks factory, it isn't.
The flat bed in the back made the model popular with young men in the years after its working life was past – for surf trips and the seduction of young women (much to the chagrin of their fathers). There are very very few of these left, and this, although not perfect is an incredibly beautiful and well taken car of car!
Description:
The car has been meticulously cared for.
*The paint has never been washed with soap.
*This car has seen only 1 night out of a garage since restoration.
*The paint has never been polished since receiving it from the paint shop - so the clear
coat is thick and untouched!
*A car cover (seen in the pics) has always been on the vehicle in the garage.
*It has only been driven to and from car shows/cruise ins - and has won several prizes!
This car also comes with photos - pre-restoration - and mid restoration.
Extra carborator, chrome and misc. parts.
Some people have commented that this is just a converted ford wagon
with the windows removed.. until they see the photos of when it
was totally stripped down and being prepped for paint... this is a very rare
original Courier Sedan Deliver!
It also comes with the original factory air conditioning module for the
interior of the car, and I think I have the A/C pump, but not 100% sure.
Unfortunately there are also a couple scrapes on the seat side panel.
The Power seat works great!
The rear seat below is a trundle seat that folds totally flat to make
this into a flat bed. Or you can fold up the seat to haul friends, kids, etc..
There is a rear view camera just above the rear view
mirror, as things look very far away looking out the
rear glass.
The paint on this car is in excellent shape, but there are a few minor blemishes.
A couple months ago, after showing the car the garage door scraped the paint on
both rear tail fins because the car had not been pulled in quite far enough :(
Another blemish is where the hood opens there is some paint chipping right near
the hing point on the passenger side.
There are a few various minor scratches and imperfections, but all pretty minor.
Just above the driver door on the roof there is a crack in the paint that is pretty
minor also, but it is the worst of the damage to the paint.
Other damage includes the original rear window that is 60 years old and has some
scratches on it.
Also the rear bumper has lots of little tiny shallow scratches. It was never re-chromed,
and might not be a bad idea to have that done.
Below is the biggest imperfection on the car in my oppinion.
It doesn't show up unless you are close - you will see that in
the other pics you either can't see it or it is barely visible.
Anyway - there it is.
There are a few very minor scratches
on the car - here you can see them. They do not go through the
clear coat - I would polish them out, but then I couldn't say that
the car has never been polished. :)
Just above the chrome trim there is an area where the paint
doesn't quite cover.
In the picture below there is a small
ding in the top of the fender
The rear bumper has lots of tiny shallow scratches on the chrome. It is
the original bumper that is 60 years old!!
Around the rear deck lid you can see pitting that was treated
at the time of the restoration, but never got floated out unfortunately.
Below the rear view mirror is the only other ding I know of
on the car.
In the picture below you can see that some paint has chipped around
the passenger side hood hing in the front of the vehicle.
Below are pics of an optional enclosed car hauler for this car.
It is a 2017 CargoMate. It has the liftgate assist, Side door,
Recessed D-Ring tie downs, and a light and vent. It comes with
all LED lights around the trailer. And has only been towed from
the dealer to my home. This trailer is available to the purchaser
of this car for an additional $5500.00, but the high bidder on the
car is not required to purchase this also.
