Vehicle runs, drives, & stops the way it should
I purchased from original owner in 2004. She bought in Arizona new in 1968 and had her entire life. It had approx 44k miles when I purchased it and it is believed the odometer has turned over once, making it 144k miles. I put approx. 6k miles on vehicle since 2004 and the miles are currently 50,094. I use it in the summer only for fun. It is always garage kept. Vehicle is a condition "3" on scale of 1 to 6. 1 being a show car, and 6 being only good for parts. This is a driver quality vehicle you don't have to worry about using.
I did a light restoration after I purchased the car. What I had done in 2004 was:
-Engine was sent to Performance Unlimited in New Jersey for professional rebuild. I told them I wanted a bullet proof, reliable, daily driver type build and they delivered. All new internals/seals.Very reliable, smooth, no leaks.
-Carb rebuilt. All fluids/tranny/rear end services. All new accessories/alternator/voltage regulator/distributor/points/plugs/wires/coil/solenoid/e-brake cable mechanism repaired and new cable run/new heater and hoses all done.
-Convertible top/rear window/liner were replaced.
- New dash pad/gauge bezel/carpet (carpet is now sun faded from using vehicle with the top down-but still very nice and clean)
-New chrome bumpers front/rear and door handles
-Paint was done in 2004 (some areas of filler are starting to bubble 12 years later but not bad for the age, still very shiny and nice paint job, not orange peely) Some rust in bottom of door shells, hood underside, front top apron, left hinge pillar, welding shop advised these are okay for now but will need to be addressed in the future.
-New floors front & rear, new torque boxes, inner rockers, any areas of rust on undercarriage were welded.
-4 new white wall tires (inside of front are worn)
-Factory radio in place for the look but does not work. I have a cd player in glove box with a wire to battery disconnected. Needs to be hooked up to have radio.
-New trunk detail set with plaid liners, very 60s! -Purchased new replacement parts from Mustangs Unlimited/NPD/California Mustang catalogs
-In 2013 all new brake shoes/drums/wheel cylinders/master cylinder replaced
Vehicle is super reliable, everything will work for years to come, just put gas in it and keep the oil changed and you will turn heads everywhere you go! The paint will need to be redone in another 5 years or so, or you can just leave it and drive it daily. The vehicle is easy to work on, very basic. No power steering, no power brakes, 4 wheel drum brakes, 3 speed automatic, 200 cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine, plenty of power but it is different than driving a modern car. It's harder to steer and brake as those systems are manual, so if you are used to old cars you will know what I mean. Ever so often you will have to adjust the brake drums, as sometimes drum brakes can fade and one side might pull to the other, that is just normal with old cars.
-Just passed NYS inspection, put in new battery, plugs, oil and coolant are perfect, shined up the paint and the chrome, it's ready for the season!
I have attached some older photos of the restoration for you to see and some current ones.
