Ford Thunderbird 1966 Description
1966 FORD THUNDERBIRD SURVIVOR
This car was purchased at an Estate sale in Colorado.(full dissertation from sale attached in pdf.) This thunderbird, Bird, etbird, ormal coupe Hardtop is the least produced of all body styles in the 1964-1966 Thunderbird styles. The Formal Hardtop Coupe differs from all others as it does not have rear quarter windows. It gives the car a very aggressive stance as the roof line drops at almost 90 degrees (very aggressive look!)I hunted high and low for a rust free, ondo free, nmolested car. I was looking for a true survivor Tbird that I could create my own Resto Mod/ pro Touring. The car is highly optionedcar camefrom the factory with powerwindows, power seats, ower door locks, ower steering, isc brakes(first year). The rarity continues as this car has a white interior.(under 300 white interiors produced in all Tbirds combined). This true survivor was owned for most of its life by a ford factory formen. Car was kept in heated warehouse in Colorado. Freshly rebuilt 390 ci/ 315hp eng & Transmission. The motor and transmission has virtually zero break in time as the owner was 87 and was not driving this American Icon any longer. It was his baby
This is the last of the ALL AMERICAN BIG BLOCK, IG TORQUE, ARGELY CHROMED BUMPERS AND BODY LINES. The 1966 Thunderbird is the last of the AMERICANA AUTO ART. the interior, ash board with swing away steering column . The rear sequential turn signals. This car was ahead of its time with the technological attributes incorporated as this car paralleled America's prowess in the space race.
I am turning 50 shortly. I wanted to buy & build myself an Eclectic gift. I hunted the perfect rust free laser straight body Thunderbird. I was going to build a monster motor with the perfect start of this 390 big block. I was to add big wheels and tires. I personally love the skirts and I wanted to keep them on. )enclosed is a picture with the car with wheels borrowed off of my brother's mustang. We had to remove the skirts to make them fit. Those wheels and tires are NOT included. The car will be received with the original steel rims and fancy hubcaps. The only reason the car is for sale is because I never took into account that this large luxury coupe would not fit in the garage of my Ft. Lauderdale cookie cutter townhouse. My hard work searching is now at a discount to the right buyer. This car is all here.
THE BODY DOES NOT HAVE ANY RUST, OBUBBLES OR BUGGLING,NOT AWAVE, NOT A RIPPLE.THE CHROME DOES NOT HAVE A DING. THE BODY PANELS ALIGNS PERFECTLY (DOORS, RUNK, OOD, UMPERS, HROME,.BODY SEAMS PERFECT.The interior could use somealigning &freshening up due to sitting and just being 50 years old but otherwise its all there . It does need the drivers door panel as with all Tbirds thehandle to pull the door shut has a tear. The radio is the original AM and the electric antenna does not goup. I think the connection fell off.
If you know your Tbirds the only weirdo thing as with 90% of the Tbirds is it likes to be started in neutral as opposed to park. This is a common thing and Ford has a quick fix diod of sorts to address this. I kinda think its retro cool. That being said, his car can be kept as the true survivoror turned into the coolest Restomod/Rod. Its almost to nice to customize as it really is a 50year old survivor. Born and raised in Colorado.
Full dissertation from the Estate sale available. I also have contact with the gentlemen that represented the car. I have had it about 5 weeks as I was trying to decide what to do.
