Ford Mustang 1978 Description
1978 Ford Mustang II Ghia, V-6, speed manual transmission with 97k miles. This car has had a repaint of high quality prior to my ownership. The vehicle has been in the Colorado Springs, Colorado area it's entire life. It is a true rust free car and has been very well cared for. It has had recent mechanical maintenance performed to ensure the car will be a reliable driver. I have not seen another one in this color and interior combination. This car will come with extras to include a Marti report and a car cover. I have spent nearly $1500 in parts alone not including labor to get the car in the current condition.ENGINE - 2.8 V-6, ew spark plugs, lug wires, il pan gasket, ear main seal, alve cover gaskets, vc valve, ir filter, oil filter and crankcase breather. The valves were adjusted when the valve cover gaskets were replaced. The water pump was replaced prior to my ownership. Dual exhaust was added with 2 catalytic converters sometime during it's life. The mufflers and tailpipes are new.
DRIVETRAIN - Borg Warner 4 speed had all three gaskets and two seals replaced. The clutch was replaced using NOS Ford pressure plate(rare find, rebuilt clutch disc, ilot bearing and throw out bearing. The flywheel was also resurfaced at this time. The differential had a new pinion seal and crush sleeve installed as well as the gear oil changed. This car has power disc brakes in front and drum on the rear.
EXTERIOR- Rare Light Aqua Metallic paint, code 7Q) that was redone to a very high quality prior to my ownership. The door jams and under hood and trunk were also repainted. I believe the new paint to be basecoat /clearcoat system but I do not have any specifics on this repaint. I do think the paint is a few shades darker than original but it really looks great. The Odense White half vinyl roof is in excellent condition. The sunroof was not installed at the factory but could have been dealer installed but I cannot document it. It was also done very well and does not have any leaks. It pops up but does NOT pop out as original. The luggage rack is period correct and also installed after it was built. The paint matched 4 lug aluminum wheels were available in 1978 but I believe they were added later because they are not on the Marti Report. The 13 inch Black sidewall radials were what the car was ordered with. (same type) The mirrors on the car were called remote control color keyed racing mirrors on the Marti report. It does have add on body side moulding that were not original but used extensively in the 80's. The windows on the car are factory tinted as noted on the Marti report.
INTERIOR- The interior is Light Aqua. The drivers seat had 2 seams ripped so I had it repaired using very hard to find NOS Corinthian vinyl that correctly matched the other seats. The dash is in perfect condition. The interior features a working digital clock, ull console, old down rear seats, M/FM factory stereo with in door speakers, ear window defroster, ighting group, emote adjusting mirrors for both sides, nd original carpet. It DOES NOT have A/C. The wipers and washers are on the turn signal switch for the first time this year. The only issues I see in the interior are two loose seams on the headliner across from the sunroof on each side and there is a broken trim piece right behind the driver on the quarter window. (see Pics) I have extra vinyl that will be wrapped and sent with the car in case any other seat repairs would be needed. The light aqua is such an unusual interior color and very hard to find the correct grain and color.
MISC- The strut rod bushing were replaced when the clutch was installed. The window to body seals on both sides and also the trunk seal were replaced because the originals were cracked. The trunk has a full size spare and has no rust at all. (see pics) The Cobra hood scoop is obviously an add on as well as the electric antenna in the top of the right rear quarter panel. The antenna is switch operated near the radio. The mechanical oil pressure gauge was also installed in the dash as this car only had an oil pressure warning light. I think that is all that I see that is non stock. I actually found the original jack and lug wrench after the pictures were taken so it will be stowed properly under the spare tire.
STATS as per Marti Report- 34,730 Ghia 2 door Hardtops were produced in 1978.
3041 cars were made with this paint code (less than 1 percent)
1223 cars with this paint/trim code ( 1/3 of 1 percent)
2772 cars were equipped with the V-6 and 4 speed manual transmission (less than 1 percent)
6303 cars with the White Odense Vinyl Roof option (less than 2 percent)
I believe that I have been as fair and accurate as I can on this car. I commissioned the Marti Report because I wanted to see what options actually came on the car as built and what was added at a later date. It is still a used 1978 Ford Mustang but these are really hard to find in this condition. The car had a few nuisance oil leaks which is why the engine, ransmission and rear end were repaired. The repairs are fairly typical of a car that is this old and which was used sparingly. I can answer most questions if needed. I will include a framed Marti report with the car but I will also forward the original pdf email from Martiworks so the winning bidder can have the original also. Thanks and happy bidding.
