Ford Ranchero 1970 Description
I pulled this car out of a wrecking yard almost 3 decades ago, he car apparently was ran off the road during an accident and hit something that damaged the underside. It tore out the front cross member where the front strut rods attach. The yard was going to repair the vehicle and use it as a "shop car". They stuck in a 429 two barrel engine and tacked in a new front cross member, ot fully welded in and thought better about trying to put it back on the road.It sat behind the office under a tree, he bed full of car parts and leaves. The rear cross member under the oil pan was damaged and removed, have a good used one to replace it. Whatever they ran over bowed up the floor pans, had a body man come over and evaluate the car. The floor pans are not rusted and he felt you could lay in dry ice and pound the pans back down. I do have a complete set of used pans from another ranchero that goes with the car. The gas tank was ripped out and I have a good used one as well. I have two good doors with factory racing mirrors and front fenders. I have two complete good sets of bed chrome, ne with snaps for a Toneau cover and a regular set, ou can pick which set you want and I have a used tailgate. I have two good used bumpers and a good used set of tail lights and lenses. I am missing both front side hash mark sets. I have the "70" gas cap but needs repair (can be repaired), have all of the SCJ shaker items, ood, ir cleaner base, norkel and exhaust heat shield. I have all of the correct SCJ engine pieces, ulleys, arb, ntake, istributor, an blade, OOE-K radiator and Carter "x" SCJ fuel pump with new diaphragm. Also included all oiler cooler parts and a new set of repo cooler brackets and a new set of oil cooler lines with new Aeroquip fittings. I also have the complete SCJ smog system! Including the impossible to find "DOSE" smog pump pulley! (yes that’s a T-bird prefix, he birds passed emissions without a smog pump so the smog pump pulley was used on the "70" SCJ drag pack cars)
The car is 95% complete I "don't" have a set of cobra jet heads or the speedo gear reducer and a few small items, ater pump, tarter, m radio, an shroud and rear wheel lip molding.
The 3:91 ring gear was badly worn so I had the third member rebuilt with a 3:25. I was going to purchase a wide ratio planetary gear set for the C-6 so it would be more freeway friendly without sacrificing low end.
The body is in pretty rough shape but fixable if you have the time and money, t is not going to break in two when you roll it off the trailer but I want to emphasize it is going to take a lot of effort to restore this correctly. This was the "only" SCJ Ranchero produced at the California San Jose plant and therefore quite rare! As you can see the R.R. quarter panel is pushed in, he body man says it's repairable. There is an approximately 8"x 18" long rust hole in the bed right below the rear window from wet leaves.Included is two bed shock absorber access panels, ne you can use to repair the ribs in the bed. Whoever owned the vehicle drilled holes in the bed to secure a tool box, he holes go directly into the cab behind the driver seat where the spare tire is located. The water leaked in and there is about a 2' x 2' rust hole. The general condition of the inner bed has several golf ball size dents, he top of the cab has one tennis ball size dent, here is a small rust hole in the rear shock well but not near the shock mounting holes, ody integrity is not compromised. The hood cowl looked like it may require some rust repair so just in case I have a complete used cowl out of another Ranchero. Original color was bright gold metallic with two-tone hood paint it has two layers of paint one black and one yellow. I have a complete hideaway grill assembly and vacuum tank, t has a small break in the upper center of the housing at its thinnest point. The rest of the assembly (headlight doors) are in decent shape. I have a brand new front center grill in the Ford box but it has a small flaw in the plastic chrome plating.
The engine block has all of the machine work done (line bored, ero decked to prevent pinging) however due to its age the cylinder walls will have to be re-honed due to light surface rust. I have a complete stroker kit, 60 marine crank (502 cubic inches) with a new set of Ross pistons and a set of pins, nd piston rings and a new set of Eagle H-beam rods a good oil pan and a new windage tray, ou'll need an oil pump and pick up. The exhaust manifolds are very nice as well as the valve covers
Also included are a used set of 14" Kelsey Hayes five slot argent steel wheels the ribbon tachometer and a used console out of a "71" Torino. I have a rim blow wheel with a new in the ford box rim blow switch. The c-6 is out of a "71" Torino but it is the correct "r" servo and I have a correct cast iron tail housing. Also included is a new in the ford box "70" speedometer, he "71's" were slightly different. Also have new in the box Ford hood locks and a new set of Ford motor mounts. I also have a good used radiator core support.
When I bought this car I knew it was a "j" code but didn't know it was a SCJ, fter a lot of research I realized it was a drag pack ranchero, went back to the wrecking yard and picked through all of the parts and retrieved the block, ist., ntake, arb, ulleys for the restoration. To verify its authenticity as a drag pack ranchero I sent away for the deluxe Marti report and found out it was the only drag pack ranchero built at the San Jose plant in northern California.
I used to sell on e-bay several years ago because of illness my account became inactive and was removed. I sold Ford parts and I restore antique juke boxes and sold juke box parts. I had about 75 sales and purchases with perfect feedback. I am friends with 7secondchevelle, ndy has seen the car and can verify its authenticity, e has perfect feedback over several years. I've tried to describe the body as accurately as I can so you know what you are getting for your money.
My reserve price is based on what it would cost to purchase all of the parts on e-bay. Due to its rarity, he body in its present condition has a value of about $1,000 dollars. There were only 86 drag pack ranchero's built in "70" 50 four speeds and 36 automatics and again "the only one built at the San Jose plant"
