Ford F-100 1979 Description
This is the Ranger Lariat Model, hich was top of the line. I personally restored this vehicle and will try to describe it as best as I can. Please keep in mind, his was not a 30K professional restoration. It is not perfect, ut is an overall excellent restoration. I have received tons of complements and won a trophy at the F-100 super-nationals a couple years back for placing in one of the classes.I made every effort to try and keep this truck original as possible, ith the exception of engine improvements. The truck came to me pretty much in original condition, xcept for a franchise paint job with tons of bondo. . The motor also had been rebuilt some time ago.
The truck was practically stripped down in an effort to restore it as much as my small garage allowed. Some pictures have been included to show work that was performed. Everything was cleaned, ealed re-painted, tc.
The body was sanded and re-primed then repainted. An effort to remove all rust was made, hen the underneath of the cab, ed and all framework was painted/sealed with a rust preventative paint (chassis saver). Tons of grinding and cutting, anding, tc. Bed panels had to be cut out and replaced for both the front and rear roll pan. Drip rails were removed due to corrosion.
Everything that could be saved fromdisassemblewas cleaned, ire brushed and re-used. What could not be saved, nbsp;was replaced. This includes wire wheel brushing of all nuts and bolts.
Paint was single stage urethane paint in silver metallic and candy apple red, orrect for the original color. Most trim was salvaged and re-buffed. A few pieces had to be replaced. All weatherstripping, ubber, ody mounts and associated hardware were replaced. Most chrome plastic, mblems, oor handles, adges, tc were replaced due to pitting and age.
The 351 modified motor was gone through and mild horsepower improvements were made. This includes:oil pump, ow end bearings, iming chain, ew cam and lifters, ifter springs and head work, ew water pump, askets, eals, il sender, ntake, delbrock 600 carb. The engine runs strong and is in top shape.
The transmission must have been rebuilt some time ago, nd is in good working condition. The rear end was rebuilt with new bearings and shims.
The interior is practically all new. Most parts ordered from Dennis Carpenter. A local guy did the seat.
Wheels are factory original, nly the center caps were changed out.
Most light pigtails were replaces for brakes, urns and headlights. All lenses were still in good shape and saved. The wiring harness was removed in sections and wiped off, nd then re-taped to try and freshen it up.
Negativeswith this truck:There is no spare tire or tire hanger components. I have whats left of the frame brackets in a box.The a/c works but pulls a lot of HP. The belt also bounces a little and I cannot determine the cause. It may be better to add a newer style compressor and kit.The rear tailgate was aChineseknock off, nd it does not line up right. Imagine that. I do however have the original tailgate still. It would need sanding and repaint to put it back on.The paint and bodywork is nice, ut single state metallic shows any little flaw. The body is also not laser straight. Most of the body is very nice, he bed rails are not perfect. Most people would never see it, ut a keen eye will. Like I said, t's not a 30K truck so don't be expecting that.
