Ford Cortina 1965 Description
Zetec swapped 1965 Ford Cortina mk1. I believe the car is originally from Finland. LHD, but the speedometer is in KM. Engine bay has factory import braces which I've never seen on another Cortina. License plate on the dashboard may be the original, I found it under the seat when I bought it last year.It has been painted with the Lotus white and green theme many years ago. I believe the car was originally red. There is no major rust, only surface rust on a few spots which are apparent in the photos. I found zero rot. Floors are completely solid. Trunk is completely solid (sorry I forgot to include trunk pics, but I can add some upon request. It does have good carpet in the trunk).
From what I can find the engine is from a mid-90's Euro spec Escort or Mondeo and is 1.6 liters. I swapped out the stock 1.6 MAF sensor housing for a 2.0 housing which really helps it breath. The car is quick and sounds like a true race car. The ECU is stored in a custom made aluminum box under the dash near the passenger footwell.
The big benefit of the modern fuel injected engine is it's very reliable. It starts up quickly and runs like a modern car. I do have a pair of Weber 40 DCOE carbs that I considered putting on it for a nostalgic look, but decided against it. I will likely be listing those separately.
I just recently had a new clutch installed and the flywheel resurfaced along with a new throw-out bearing. Transmission is a Type-3 gearbox. The 4-speed shifts very smoothly, zero grinding.
The car is very complete (minus the original engine) and really needs nothing other than some cosmetics. The interior is original and in fairly good condition for it's age. There are a couple rips on the headliner and some wear on the front seats.
The gauges aren't all connected. Currently only the fuel gauge is hooked up. I haven't looked at what it would take to connect the speedometer or temp gauge, but I'm sure it's not too difficult. Actual mileage is unknown due to the engine swap. One thing that the new owner might want to do is add a radiator overflow bottle. Currently I just let it drain to the ground. It seems to run cool, I've never had it overheat and I've driven it all over SoCal.
Some other nice features are as follows:
