Ford Crown Victoria 1955 Description
This low mileage unrestored car was found near Cleveland, OH in June 2011.It had not been driven much since the early 1980’s and was not running. The odometer showed 31,535.7.The driver’s door and pillar was covered with oil change stickers that showed the low mileage total.
Before starting the car, I took the engine pan off, cleaned it and installed with fresh oil, and with some ignition and carburetor work it started and ran well. When I got it home, I had found that the front brakes had been removed, so the braking system was completely replaced with silicone brake fluid. The dual exhaust system was replaced from the engine back. The gas tank was removed and cleaned. The fuel pump is new.The air cleaner and valve covers were repainted.Due to leaky seals, the transmission was completely overhauled by a local transmission shop specializing in old cars.
The left front fender had been damaged on the front past the headlight; it was removed, the dents carefully removed, and after replacing, was painted with single stage urethane. Two pieces of trim (missing and damaged) were replaced. The rear trunk trim was pitted and I replaced it with a new old stock one ($500).The chrome and stainless steel is very good. The trunk has been repainted due to a foot sized circle of primer in back; some of the trunk floor was repainted as someone had spilled lacquer on the floor and wheel well. The tires are excellent and ‘new’, however they were probably purchased in the early 80’s.I have driven approximately 1500 miles on them.
The interior trim was rubbed out with compound to bring back the shine.I replaced the door sill trim. The clock works and is the wind-up type. The radio has been completely rebuilt by a professional. The horn ring on the steering wheel has been replaced. The upholstery shows little wear, except for the driver’s seat, which is torn.I think that was the only one used during its first 30K miles.A roll of replacement material is included, or LeBaron Bonney could make a new seat bottom. The headliner is excellent, and the power windows and seat all work.
The current odometer reading is only 33,044 miles. It was recently tuned-up.It came originally from Mobile Alabama, and was assembled in New Orleans. It is a very solid and original, never restored car.I have spent many hours underneath with it on my lift, scraping and wire brushing.
The books and manuals pictured are included in the sale, however the 1955 license plate and topper are not.I was able to find the correct jack and handle, and that is included. The power steering leaks and needs the included seal kit installed.I have never filled or used the windshield washer.
We have driven the car to a few local car shows and it gets a lot of attention.People have a difficult time believing that it is unrestored. The Crown Victoria drives like a new car which reflects on the very low mileage.I can use the space and finally realize that I can only drive one old car at a time.I feel that our reserve is fair and reflects a need for tires and upholstery work.If you have questions please contact me through Ebay.
