Ford Galaxie 1963 Description
Thank you for viewing and your consideration of a true Ford high performance icon. This 1963 Galaxie 500 has the legendary solid lifer; race prepped 406 FE 4 – speed. Sporting all of its original drive train and components, this car is sold as it was born from FoMoCo. Double black ’63 406 4-speed, we are really talking about one of the most desirable Galaxies out there.
I am listing this ’63 G-Code Galaxie for a friend; he has owned this car 1987. From September 05, 1962 when this car built through today, it has always been stored inside. A year after the new owner purchased the car, he started the frame on restoration. Starting with a low mileage drive train and rock solid car, this ’63 simply was freshened up and tastefully upgraded!
Please look at each photo and ask any questions you may have. Please bid to win; if you have questions, ask before you bid. If you have feedback that is less than 5 positive, contact us or your bid will be removed. This isn’t a bid and then look and figure if you can buy or afford it. This car is a real deal 406 4-speed, bid to buy.

That is the breakdown of the Warranty Plate (or data/vin tag). This is still a matching car with its original components still true to the car. All warranty numbers (vin number), date codes and parts to the car are correct. As many people say, this is a numbers matching car, down to the distributor.
With that said, let’s go over this 58,000 actual mileage hipo car.
Exterior:
The paint is still very nice with a few blemishes from being almost 30 years old. Overall, it’s nice with minor bubbling in a few spots. Our ’63 has a tear drop hood that matches the car perfectly. Along with the car, you will get the original steel hood. Wheels are Polished Torque Thrusts up front and steelies on the rear. Tires are BFG radials for safer driving.
Interior:
In very good shape, the black interior is all stock and unmolested. The AM radio has been converted to an FM-iPod set up. Meaning you can now listen to your favorite FM channels and you can also plug your iPod in with a 3.5mm jack. The seats, door panels and carpet were replaced in 2005. Nothing is worn out, this is a very comfortable car to drive and ride in if you haven’t been in one lately (or ever).
Drive Train:
This is what everyone is after: a car with its original 6 barrel tripower 406. With low mileage, the engine is still standard bore. No boring, cutting, porting or altercation of this block. The engine and transmission were gone over and freshened up with only the addition of a little bigger cam by crane, still a street cam for drivability. The transmission was gone through and a Hurst shifter was installed. Also, for added drivability, the original distributor was fitted with a Petronix breakerless ignition system. The C1AE-9510-Av center and C1AE-9510-AU outboard Holley two barrels were rebuilt and tuned professionally and able to handle today’s fuel. The car also has a modern electronic fuel pump to handle the massive amount of fuel that the tripower will ask for when the skinny pedal is pressed. (The funny thing about it, these cars are actually not very bad on fuel when they are driven with manners) The factory hipo heads, intake, carbs, headers and distributor are all still on the engine. The clutch and pressure plate are brand new along with a freshly resurfaced pressure plate.
All in all this is a turnkey, ready to drive and cruise car. It runs spectacular, drives and stops just as good as it goes. It has the history, the looks and the performance. This is a real knock out of a Gal! Double black 406 G-code….bid, go own the car show.
A bit about the 406 FE:
406 6 barrel FE engine is very similar to the 427. As a predecessor to the 427, the 406 sporting the same quick revving 3.78” stroke and massive 4.13” bore was responsible for carrying Fords name throughout all racing circuits. Oval and straight line, it’s hard to beat a solid lifer, 3 carburetor engine that likes to go! In stock form, the 406 gave its full size Fords a 6 passenger carrying 405 horse power and close to 450 foot pounds of torque. Add the slightly larger cam, electronic ignition and today’s fuel, you will see slightly higher numbers from this 406 FE.
A trusty t-10 4-speed will be accepting the challenge of 450+ torque. Many people ask “is that a top loader?”. No, the top loader came out in 1964, and while the top loader is one of the kings, the T-10 can take what you give it. Known to live with slicks and low 11 second passes, this t-10 doesn’t get any of that abuse. The 3.50:1 gears are in a 9” Ford carrier and housing. Nothing more needs to be said there. An FE 406, 4-speed and 9” rear already puts you ahead of the game. Add that to a double black ’63 Galaxie – you’re all set and ready to cruise!
Be confident in this entire car and drive train!
