Dodge Charger 1983 Description
This is a 1983 Dodge Charger Shelby. It is all original.... even the paint ! It shows signs of some minor bodywork done on the left quarter panel next to the tail lamp. It also appears that the front bumper/grille has been changed (the stripes are not the same). The car has had the cylinder head removed, disassembled and cleaned to remove varnished gas that was sticking the valves and the valves were freshly ground and new lifters installed at that time. The fuel tank was replaced, lines flushed and new carburetor installed. At that time an electric fuel pump was added to prevent vapor lock (similar to a factory fix they did for this problem).
The transmission was rebuilt with all new syncro brass and bearings. The shift linkage has been updated with a kit that replaces all of the nylon bushing with metal ends and bronze bushings. (This is the kit I bought and used... awesome stuff !! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dodge-Omni-GLH-Shift-Linkage-Upgrade-Kit-GLHS-Shelby-Charger-Rampage-/252452911717?hash=item3ac75dba65:m:mxuzfNpFNYd_1iDT--ETicA&vxp=mtr )
It has had the rubber bushings in the front suspension replaced, new starter, new a/c compressor (air is nice and cold) and a new set of tires.
The car needs a very little bit of body work and paint and some interior help. The interior is all original but is 33 years old... seams are coming apart and is faded a bit. The speedometer works but bounces a lot... cables are not the issue. The tachometer needle fell off.... it is in there somewhere !
The car runs and drives better than most cars of the same age. It is a blast to drive!
If you want a neat little car that you car tinker with and drive while you doll it up a bit.... this could be it ! And you may be driving one of the few that have survived.
This car originally came out of Florida and made its way to Texas. It is 100% rust free !!! These cars are getting to be real rare.... I have not seen any posted for sale anywhere for over a year.
I would not be afraid to drive this car anywhere.
